I've been searching and searching for a family tartan. Apparently not one for my surname. So then I searched for maiden names in the family and such... O'Brien - nope, no tartans.... Squires - nope Geehan - nope Nugent - nope oops. I guess they aren't Scottish. Does that mean that the Irish don't have tartans? Can I become Scottish? I love the bagpipes, and wear a kilt when the wife isn't home. Aren't the Highlanders Catholic? I used to be Catholic. Newfoundland has a tartan. I wonder how they got it? Can I make up my own? If I do, will someone here bless it or something to make it real?

Just found out that the Irish have had tartans since the 1600's. I still don't have one though. My name was probably something like O'Hallae back then....

You have to trace which clan your family is part of; the Glens don't have a tartan, as such, however, being part of the McIntosh clan, their tartan is also ours
Even though they're more famous for raincoats!! Appropriate in Scotland!!

I have seen a photo and it is more burgandy than purple. Yep, it still looks terrible!! Oh, dear!!! (although you can't help but smile !) so it's more beautiful burgundy or awesome aubergine (enviable eggplant - for the Children of them Colonies!!) than positively purple? Poor Sis - that's a trip to the salon to repair that one - and that's a GOOD thing
