Okay, I'll come clean - I hardly know anything about football.
We call it soccer here for some reason....
My viewing has been limited to : Matches of the World Cup, EuroCup (this summer), some English F/A games and a few MSL (Toronto FC) matches.
There has been a few times during the World Cup where I have seen good matches and then I get turned off by the diving and don't watch anymore. I actually enjoyed the EuroCup this summer more than the World Cup. I found it a little more aggressive, offensive oriented and less diving around. I've been looking for a team to support - I was looking at Arsenal maybe but I'm open to suggetions. I don't know anything about Irish or Scottish football, except that there is a big Ranger/Celtic rivalry.
It's hard to go into this so blind.
A few things I like about football that I've seen:
- English FA. Up and down the field, rough and tumble, hardly any diving (there's that word again)
- Some World Cup Matches. And I seem to like the northern countries style better - Germany, British, Netherlands etc.
What I don't like:
- DIVING!
- Italy (if I see another Italian rolling around in the ground as a result of an imaginary foul I'll stop watching altogether)
-the rules seemed to be designed to have the lowest number of goals possible. I would like offside rules adjusted a bit.
- I hate seeing a team's effort for the whole game ruined by a penalty kick against them.
Any enlightening comments would be welcome. Also advice on what team I should support. These are the qualities I like : Long tradition, hard working, a common man's team, never quits. loyal supporters...entertaining even when they lose...
