A bunch of us would gather at my lifelong friends house each Saturday to Watch "In Concert" and SNL- Guy had this record wit this dude wearin a striped shirt doin a "Pointy Thing" on a label i never saw before (Vertigo).. 10 seconds into Swampsnake and I was hooked fer life(and luved gettin high watchin the Vertigo label spinin round and round) (I still got me vinyl) I remember IN CONCERT well too victor. Plus Midnight Special. They don't have shows like that anymore. I think I've already posted how I started listening to SAHB so I won't repeat it. However, once I started listening, I bought their records as soon as they come out up until Tomorrow Belongs to Me, or SAHB Stories. I forget which came out first. I always loved jamming to SAHB songs. Chris's bass playing taught me that it's WHAT notes you play WHEN, not how many notes you can play fast.

My brother got me into SAHB, remember him going to the Vetch Field in Swansea to see them in 76, along with The Who. (Tickets only about £2.50 then). Started listening to them in the late 70's and listened to them ever since. My kids cant understand why I like them. I dunno kids these days got no taste in music.

The first i heard was Delilah, bought the single and thought the b-side (soul in chains) was "sensational". I bought Live, then searched for Next, Framed. TBTM, TID,....WHAT A BAND. My mates at school were into Queen but when I lent them Live they were fuckin' amazed......I'm privileged to say "Xmas gigs....I wiz there"....sensational doesn't even come close.....cheers Alex

Boston Tea Party did it for me ... is it really 30-something years ago? I had no music of my own so went shopping for some SAHB and Alice Cooper. Only thing on cassette in local HMV was Penthouse Tapes. What a weird introduction to the band that album is!
The Live album cranked up to the max on headphones really did it. Brilliant times, collecting records then, checking out gatefold sleeves on the bus home before that crucial first listen.
Like others here I also got into the Tubes. I guess that SAHB and Alice Cooper and Bowie made me aware that theatrical rock bands could make brilliant music too - by superb musicians. And Alex was a living piece of theatre.
I've loved Alex and SAHB since I was 12 years old and it's impossible to put into words what they've meant to me. Alex was "fray-muh-dah", we were his boys and girls and it has been a gas.

That was in 1983 when I bought the live album . As I began being addicted to SAHB who wasn't very famous in France (I think they only came once in Paris ) I decided to buy Next , Framed , The Impossible Dream and The Penthouse Tapes .

Hi Guys. Just registered. s.a.h.b. were before my time.About ten years ago a mate slung a copy of 4 play at me saying it was the greatest thing ever. But I just could not and still can't get into it. I have 2 copies on vinyl though. Later, after reading about Alex's notoriety I picked up a cheap compilation c.d. under the name of Delilah and became hooked. Subsequently tracking down all the albums on vinyl. Lucky to find a copy of Alex's solo album - The Mafia Stole My Guitar. Alex was a treasure. After finding them all on vinyl they were re-issued o C.D. But I will forever keep and treasure my vinyls

Read this thread a time or 2. Been thinking about it,consulted Lady Wanderer(we go back a long way, bless her), and we're not sure where it all started. May have been a chance purchase, browsing through the record department in some shop, or possibly a live gig(Northwich I think) that we just stumbled upon, Oh those were the days, jumpers for goalposts etc. Anyroads, being a couple of a certain age, we can't remember..........................sorry,what was the question.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the infiltrating numpties (his word, not mine) that work with Gary - please take a little time to aquaint yourself with the forum and the existing threads - even if they're not particularly current. This one wasn't too far back.

I came across SAHB thanks to my eldest sister. I was 13 and she was 17, she used to play these albums and I found myself singing along as I did my homework ,and really enjoyed them.
She used to buy the NME and later in the week would allow me to read it too. I read a review of SAHB in concert, there was a black and white photo of Zal in all his glory and I was mesmerised.
I asked my sister if she had heard of this band. She gave me the dirtiest look imaginable and put "Framed" on. I could not believe it! It was the same album I was singing along to on the other side of the bedroom wall!
My sister then did something really out of character. She got permission from my parents to go out with her. As we went into Manchester she told me SAHB were playing at the Free Trade Hall. It was sold out but her boyfriend was a bouncer there.
She left me by the stagedoor, a few minutes later the door opened and her boyfriend yanked me through. He waited until everyone was seated and made me stand against the wall with the words, "Dont move from there! Ann is watching you".
SAHB came on stage and about five minutes later I was standing under Zal's mic stand with my chin on the stage ;D ;D ;D
What a fantastic night that was.........

You don't know how much I envy anyone who saw SAHB live! I'd pass on every concert I've ever been to just to see them once back in the day. I guess they were afraid of Canada....

I don't remember what the TV program was. Could have been Don Krishner's Rock Concert. I was blown away; a slack-jawed mouth breather for the entire show. I immediatly bought the Live album and proceeded to wear it out. The rest, as they say, is history!

Knebworth '74, all hyped to see the lineup and then The Sensational Alex Harvey Band took the stage, literally, what a show! I had seen many rock shows by then, too long a list, Alex and his band are the best.
