Notice I didn't say "have" or "owned". I don't mean an album that you found, or was given to you... I mean the first album that you bought with your own money - it makes a difference! _______________________________________________________________________ It was the fall of 1974, I was sixteen and got my first paycheck (school and home life wasn't working too good for me)... So I've finally got some spending money. Must buy an album of course! Of course many of my friends had albums I had listened to, and I had a few covered in racoon crap (that's another story), but what am I going to spend my hard earned money on? And it was hard earned - a job in a plastics factory making minimal wage. I went to the local record store and came back with two albums. The first was the new David Bowie album Diamond Dogs. The second one was Second Helping by Lynyrd Skynyrd, because I thought Sweet Home Alabama was a great song. I didn't listen to it that much. I must have listened to Diamond Dogs ten times that day alone. From the howling hounds at the beginning to the skeletal chants at the end. Over and over. Loud as I could on my crappy stereo. I really liked all the songs on it, some of it was a revelation in sound. Nothing boring here. For the next while I continued to buy two albums a week - I had to get all the Bowie backlist of course and finally stopped buying him around 1984 with Tonight. #1 #2

I had forgotten what the programme was called, just remembered it was a very cheesy, family, goody two shoes sort of thing, in my defence I was about ten. So thats ok then!

Think it cost me 19 shillings or summink. Includes my all time favourite song. 'Sitting On top of The World'. Actually, its not the song as such but the version of it on this recording in particular.

I'm glad someone else remembers Follyfoot! I wonder if it will ever get another airing on some obscure channel or another, wouldn't have thought its aged well. Unlike the rest of us.
