No more was yet for SAHBROCK 6, still bits and bobs to be confirmed before it's announced to you lot Looking forward to the announcement, but it's far better to hear that your very nearly fighting fit again. Would starting a list of possible takers for tickets assist in anyway?? ;D

Came across what was supposed to be the opening gambit for SAHBrock 2012 - the speech that never was spoken as our party was ten minutes late and the show had started when we got there!! Quite right, too, it was a packed programme and time was tight. Just some facts and figures on Yorkhill, the funds raised this year will go there too.
SAHBrock, is an evening of fun and fundraising; this year the chosen charity, to which you are contributing, just by being here, Yorkhill Childrens Foundation, is known and instantly recognised across this city, quite simply, as Yorkhill.
The Royal Hospital for Sick Children specialises in paediatric care, from newborn babies right up to children around 13 years of age and includes a specialist accident and emergency facility. Yorkhill currently has 266 inpatient beds, 12 daycase beds and handles around 90,000 outpatients and 7,300 daycases every year.
Originally opened on 20th December 1882, as the Hospital for Sick Children, in the Garnethill area of the city, with just 58 beds, it took almost 22 years to resolve a dispute with the University of Glasgow regarding a suitable site. On the 8th January 1883, the hospital admitted its first patient. The hospital was given Royal patronage in 1889, when the prefix was added to its title. By the 1900s the hospital was suffering from a chronic lack of space, resulting in a new site at Yorkhill being chosen for the replacement building. The new hospital opened in July 1914 and in July 1964 The Queen Mother’s Maternity hospital opened on an adjacent site.
By 1966, the discovery of severe structural defects brought about the demolition of the building, prompting the temporary relocation of the childrens’ hospital to Maryhill. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children was reopened at Yorkhill by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 1972, a sensational year in more ways than one, and, again coupled with the Queen Mother’s Maternity Hospital, effectively established a national centre of integrated obstetrics & paediatric care, although the maternity hospital was closed in 2010. A new operating theatre complex opened in 1998 and a new intensive care unit opened in April 2005. What does the future hold for our chosen good cause of Yorkhill? Another move is on the cards. Relocation to the site of the Southern General Hospital in Govan, which is being comprehensively redeveloped, with the opening planned for just 3 years from now, in 2015.
From the humble beginnings in Garnethill of 58 beds, the new 100 million pound, 256 bed Royal Hospital for Sick Children will be integrated with the refurbished maternity unit at the Southern General. Please God, your children or grandchildren never need one of those beds – but rest assured, if it’s needed, the care is there, thanks, in part, to The Yorkhill Childrens’ Foundation.
Your support here this evening is vital for the wellbeing and good health of Yorkhill and we thank you for braving the winter weather to be here. In the hope of raising even more money, there are raffle tickets on sale and there’s surely some collection tin rattling going on too. Please, give as generously as you can; it will only make you feel even better about this evening, knowing that you’re helping a great cause, a Glasgow institution, as well as having a great night out.
The organisers of this evening, who have done such a great job, thank you; Hugh, Ted, Chris, Zal, Max and Julian thank you for your support and I thank you, for listening to just a wee bit of the history of The Royal Hospital for Sick Children, one of Glasgow’s real characters, known by her good home folks, quite simply, as Yorkhill. I wonder...... what will they call it after 2015? It would come as no surprise if the people of the city of Glasgow, still refer to that centre of excellence for the healthcare of their children as Yorkhill, in fact, I rather hope they do.
So, make sure you have more raffle tickets than the person next to you, make sure you have given all your loose change to the charity tin rattler, make sure you have a great night, make sure the bands know that you are here and please - make sure that you give a sensational SAHBrock welcome to your host for the evening, from Rock Radio, MISTER TOM RUSSELL.
