Amazing by name, AMAZING by performance! I’ve just got back to Leeds a few minutes ago at 4am from Glasgow, and tonight (or rather, last night) saw what could be regarded as the perfect, flawless SAHB show… apart from maybe Zal’s broken string during St Anthony. It’s a shame that not every SAHB fan could have been there, because you wouldn’t see a better show from the boys.
The show was at the spacious ABC on Sauchiehall St in Glasgow, my first time there. Room inside for the sell out 1250 crowd (and nice “Sold Out” on the marquee sign above the entrance), and a good sized stage for the band to work with, which added to their performance I think.
The band came on at 8.15pm – an earlier start than for the rest of the tour, but the ABC hosts clubbing from 11pm so the band had a strict curfew to finish at 10pm. I have to say, the band were truly amazing. For some reason (maybe the barrier which pushed the crowd several feet from stage front), I heard Hugh’s keyboards more clearly tonight. Plus he seemed to add several extra nice touches. Ted was solid and looked to be having fun. Chris was awesome, striking poses, playing those big bass chords, and not a single insult at Max! Zal looked to be having fun, and thankfully had no tech problems other than maybe 90 second disruption due to the aforementioned broken string. And Max… well, for the first time in the shows I’ve seen, Max was flawless. No line fluffs, he just fit his role like a perfectly fitting glove. Every one of the band looked and sounded in top form, for the big, hometown party and last night of the busy tour.
The setlist was: Faith Healer, Midnight Moses, Dance To Your Daddy, Dolphins, Hail Vibrania, Framed, Isobel Goudie, Give My Regards To The Chef, Tomahawk Kid, St Anthony, Action Strasse; (encore songs) – Vambo (with sax player), Make Love To You (with sax), Hole in Her Stocking (with sax), Anthem (with two bagpipers, drummer, and a young woman with a fantastic voice), The show ended at 10.05pm (they missed curfew!), a wonderful 1hr50m show.
Highlights? Well, everything! Though I thought “Hail Vibrania” sounded fantastic – maybe again due to my being further from the stage due to crush barrier and so hearing it better? Framed really cooked too. The sax player added nicely to the first three encore songs. But the “piece de resistance” was the show closer, “Anthem”. The young female singer, named Samantha had a wonderful voice for the high, haunting vocal, and I think brought a lump to the throat of many in the crowd (and on stage too, judging by Chris’ reaction to her singing). The drummer kept that wonderful beat going throughout, and the two pipers came in late on (or at least, I first heard them late on). The whole effect and sound was magnificent, what a way to end the tour.
Sadly I had to skip the chance to thank the band later in person because of having to drive back home to Leeds, but I had all my pleasure in that 110 minutes. Amazing. Met several familiar faces… I’m crap at names, so I won’t name those I *do* remember, but many folk from the Bilston fests, plus from other shows! Great to see you all! And I took a few nice photos too. But it’s so late (early?) that I just can’t post them online now, I need to get some sleep! But will do so later, and will let folk know with another posting.
Thanks to SAHB and the other performers for a truly memorable show tonight (and for the other fine shows I attended on the tour). Live music really doesn’t come much better than this.
Kim (in Leeds)

Hi ; what a show!!!!! Best I have seen them yet. Band truly outstanding butMax has came on leaps and bounds even from Newcastle earlier in this tour. the addition of a sax player was a nice touch but "Anthem" was truly special. Judith and I were both moved to tears and we weren't the only ones. Sensational somehow just doesn't seem to be a big enough word now. John in Livingston

After all these years i got to see SAHB, and it was tremendous, coz i had an extra ticket my 20 yr old daughter came with me just so as her sad auld dad widnae be a "billy no-mates", she usually listens to dance type stuff that all the kids listen to these days, well she's away to her work this morning listening to a wee compilation CD with Anthem, Vambo, Tomohawk Kid etc proof positive that "SAHB refreshes the parts that other bands can't reach!" We both had a brilliant time and can't wait to do it again, also the Hail Vibrania number was amazing, the hair on the back of my neck stood up, it was awesome, so when doe's that album get released?, ma lassie and I will have one each, we both had a tear in our eye during Anthem, it was the first time she'd heard it(what an introduction !) so in conclusion thank you to the band for being amazing, and thank you to the nicest crowd who in no small part made a great nite into a brilliant one. Don't pish in the water supply!!

Yeeessssss! what a great nite band were sooperb at the ABC last time i seen them was at bilston which was kinda laid back IMHO, but here they didnt disapoint, you could see the effort that the lads were putting in which obviously made the end product sound better than it has in the past, i think were now seeing max hit his peak as a performer.
"SAHB are the Truth"
thanks again to the band and to catherine for ensuring we had a great nite
;D

Awesome gig! Seen SAHB live so many times over the past 3-4 years! Last night was definately one of the best! Didn't even mind that Delilah, Boston Tea Party, and NEXT weren't on the playlist cos the way they played last night, these guys could do no wrong!!
Until next time!

Amazing stuff, every show was better than the last and the one last night just topped it all off. This one was so polished and the atmosphere was brilliant, the lady who sang Anthem was perfect, what a voice. Not only that but it was great to see everyone again, you couldnt ask for a better crowd at SAHB gigs (although mrsfoster is quite heavy when he's jumping up and down on your feet). I take it you enjoyed yourself then craigie

Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!! This is the 3rd time I have had the pleasure of seeing the lads on stage, the last time being @ the ABC last christmas and in my opinion last nights gig was the best. A faultless performance and if I had to vote on the highlights it was 'Dolphins' and of course 'Anthem'. Travelled from West Cumbria to the show and it was well worth the journey! Looking forward to next year and the new album!!!!!
Merry Christmas to SAHB and to all the readers of this forum.

Of the many, many times I have seen SAHB over the years last night was most definately one of the best shows ever. Took a mate who had come over from Germany for the gig. The highlight of his year. What made it special for me was seeing Zal, Chris and Max playing up to a lovely young kid who was right in front of Hugh. Apparently the young fella is a massive fan. The band certainly made his night. Well done guys.

Absolutely class performance by everyone...Max was relaxed, and it rubbed off on the rest of them. Excellent sound in the ABC for once...and great to see Deke on sax (Big George & The Business...plus many other bands). I gave my opinion of 'Hail Vibrania' elsewhere, but no complaints here... Chris & Ted rock solid as usual, I love the heavier sound the guys are playing, Crank that volume up big time as far as im concerned. Sorry i cant say too much about Hughs involvement as i was right in front of Zal and was blown away with his performance and sound ( ears are still ringing 2 days later ;D ) but im sure he done a fine job as per usual. Met the troops again, brilliant bunch of guys, and gals ,best band and best fans......Catherine (Chris's Sis ) your an absolute gem of a wummin' Thanks for everything Kid, Chad Ian ( the driver ) Craigie and huntvambo and everybody else i spoke to (cant remember everybody's name , drink has that effect on me im afraid ) You all helped make it a memorable night for me Thanks......Sarge, where were you? ah missed you Helen , so sorry about your toes, i didn't realise, thats what happens when i drink Kangaroo beer ;D (far too old for that kinda thing ),,,,Finally a BIG thanks to the band for a fantastic night, even the wee set in the Clutha Vaults was just class.....Thanks for the memories..........Vambo still kicks ass ;D

Dito .. its all been said .... for me ... It was like having the best sex ever and then watchin Sunderland ( The light side ) beat Newcastle ( the dark side ) 7-0 in the Champions league final ... and then winning a roll over lottery ... What a day and what a Gig ... I was only 15 when I saw the lads with Alex ... now Max has a lot to live up to and I do feel a wee by sorry for him at times ... some shoes to fill .. but Max gets on with it, and doesn't try and be Alex .. respect to him for that ... ABC was the best I have seen Max .. and dare i say ... even the band ... I know its only 2 days ago and the Euphoria is still high ... but that was Special, special gig that was .. and ANTHEM ... well, I wanted it to last for ever ... every song every word every note ... Feckin perfection ... and then the Vaults after ... bring on the next tour !! anyone fancy Belfast buoys n gurls ?

I must be honest and say that though bits were better this year Last year was the best I have ever seen them. Max seemed a bit off to me and had reigned in the manic, camera headbutting, energy that set last year alight. Zal was fantastic, though and even a Sahb off day(which this wasn't, before everyone gets on my case) blows away anyone else.
