Alrighty then:
This was always going to be a great pairing - Chris Glen and Michael Schenker on the same stage. Of such things dreams are made (for me, at least).
Sooooo - after a lengthy slog from Yorkshire, I rolled into Dudley and met up with the SAHB crew in the hotel - the ever lovely Catherine, the always affable Colin, the always reliable and friendly PlatterPete, and (thud) Chris Glen. After a wee chat, it was gig time, and we entered the Twilight Zone - I GAVE CHRIS GLEN AND PLATTERPETE A LIFT TO THE GIG!
Yes indeedy, a legend's arse has been on the seat of my wee Audi, and Chris Glen was in the car too! ;D (there you go, Pete!).
Bear in mind now that Chris is the guy I used to pretend to be in my youth, posing away to Delilah with a tennis racket - and now I'm driving him to a gig. Surreal.
Got in on the Guest List (thank you Chris, you made my day with that alone) and settled in for the show.
Fury UK (support) were not really my cup of tea, but they could clearly play and got a good response from the crowd. Fair play to them.
Then onto the main act - MSG. Now, I've been a Schenker fan since UFO's Obsession album in 78, so this was a bit of a big thing for me - first time seeing the Mad Axeman in person - and I wasn't let down. Schenker was sublime - but the real show for me was the rhythm section - our Chris - *well* into the show, smiling and playing with good natured ferocity, along with Chris Slade (who has also played with some Aussie outfit, ABCD or something). The "bottom end", as they say, was ribcage rattling at its very vintage best.
Seeing all this, along with the very best company out there, was a real joy. To Chris, Catherine, Colin and Pete - it was a blast, and thank you for making a great night even better. This one will stay with me.
Cheers all,
Chris's Personal Driver. ;D
