Well that's another year gone by since the sad death of the great man.
Still missed and always remembered.

I can't help but picture Alex as a major disruptive and explosive force of creative and enthusiastic energy in whatever bit of the hereafter he may be. So I think RIP, in this case must stand for "Rockin' in Paradise"
His music will live forever and as long as we're around he will always be fondly remembered, what a guy

Another excerpt from my "book", written as dated.
I will try very hard not to post any more.
I still feel like this - except I'm not pished at present
Sunday 4th February 2007
Today is the 25th anniversary of the death of the late lamented much mourned and missed Alex Harvey. Tomorrow would have been his 71st birthday - same age as m’Uncle Joe - Colin and I have Alex and his sensational band playing at full tilt in our very own post Sunday lunch tribute.
I’ve spoken to my big brother today – who is currently caught up in a “it’s my band thing” with Zal in the aftermath of the Susan shit – he is also mourning for Alex, commemorating the fellow who lifted Tear Gas from parochial fame to international renown, as well just plain remembering his friend, the Sensational Alex Harvey, Scotland’s Tommy Steele, The Last of The Teenage Idols, the always smiling guy who sat on the bonnet of the truck for four years in the West End musical “Hair” – refer to him as you will, he deserves your commemoration and ought to be remembered. – Last of the Teenage Idols is on now, I could just cry.
On a marketing note – last night BBC Radio Two broadcast an hour long tribute to Alex - I note, with considerable sadness, that the Zalvation Band, which owes its very existence, albeit troubled, to Alex, did not see fit to host a tribute concert, which I’m sure Lulu, Nick Cave (& the Badseeds), Noddy Holder (singer of Slade), Fish (of Marillion fame), Dean Ford (Desmond has a barrow in the market place – Marmalade fame), Jim Kerr (Simple Minds) Ricky Neilson (Cheap Trick), Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) and possibly even Johnny “Rotten” Lydon (a great big fan) would have made every endeavour to attend – not to honour the Zalvation band but to pay deserved respect to the late, great, nay, Sensational Alex Harvey; Husband, Father, Enthusiast, Visionary, Teacher, Musician, Pacifist, Son and Grandson of Conscientious Objectors, Environmentalist – before it was fashionable, Dreamer and Showman – second to none.
But that’s just how I feel about it. What do I know? A biological fan.
Colin – the genuine fan - has just read this and now we are both in tears, all the while tapping, clapping, singing and drumming to “Hole In Her Stocking” – which I remember with terrific fondness as the number to which Jennifer, my stunningly, glamorous sister-in-law, dressed up and danced to – much to my big brother’s mortification – at a party they gave when they still lived in Glasgow. It’s a fuckin’ fabulous track – and Jennifer was fabulous in her own way too. Certainly that night!
I’ve just made a right **** of myself – Colin, so moved by what I’ve just written, called my big brother and handed me the phone to read this to him – I blubbed my way through it – aided and abetted, mainly abetted, by a couple of buckets of a rather nice red – poor bugger, he just wanted to drop off Jimmy and get home to his nice new duvet and pillows.
It just goes to show, that whether you have ever or never owned a dog, if you say this often enough, “my dog is dead” my dog is dead” you can convince yourself that your dog is dead – say it some more and you get really upset.
However, he was sensational. Alex, not my dog.
Actually, I do know what all the blubbing is about. Alex and the band had split and he was touring with his younger, newer model when he died.
What if he and SAHB had got back together, even for one show………..that’s what saddens me,
what if……what ifs are just phenomenal tear jerkers.
What if? We’ll never know.

Hard to believe it's been 28 years.
Even harder to believe Alex would have turned 75 tomorrow.
Anthem will certainly be heard from many a speaker today.
RIP Alex

Some lovely thoughts and comments from everyone so far, I really can't think of anything other than agreeing with all of you.
A man ahead of his time in so many ways, still not fully appreciated by so many even now. Someone I would have loved to have known, a true genius.
RIP - Alex Harvey.

The Late Great Alex Harvey: many friends don't understand my admiration and adulation for the man, and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. They might think I'm obsessed or juvenile but I don't care. I love 'em anyway. Vambo Rool!

I love 'em anyway. Vambo Rool! It's one of those, "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand" kind of things. I have experienced the same kind of reactions. I've bought several copies of John Neil Monro's book, The Sensational Alex Harvey and gave them to friends as gifts (along with copies of the Live album). Some of them understood, and some of them did not. The latter group are such unfortunate souls I however am PROUD to be among the enlightened. My signature on another musician's forum I visit is VAMBO ROOLS, just like it is here. Carry the flag high, or don't carry it at all! ;D
