As all on here know it will be 30 years since Alex Harvey died on the 4th of february 2012, it may seem a wee bit premature but it is now just under two years to go, any suggestions/ideas/thoughts on the subject? ?

There is the Alex memorial www.myspace.com/alexharveytributeSAHTB have said they will play at any fundraising event they organise but they blow hot & cold. They came to life as SAHBstock approached & I had to "ban" them from fundraising at it as that was the whole point of SAHBstock, I think they had fliers at the gig tho' but they've went quiet again.

Ease up on the enthusiasm and ideas troops , its almost underwhelming!!!!!
Alex Harvey anyone?
Helluva character, musical genius, fearless performer, 20th Century Philosopher, Eco-Warrior,
Above all a man ahead of his time, and more than that an honest man, a rarity in the music business.
So , c'mon guys its only thoughts we need, nowts set in stone!!!!!

Caveman, a Scot is the King of late night TV "Craig Ferguson", maybe a petition of a kind to have SAHB appear on his show in honor of Alex, we may have to send e-mails, letters and such for these next 2 years but it would be cool to see them on late night TV.

At last , suggestions, and not a bad one at that!!!!!
Firstly apologies if i came across as sarcasticin my previous coupla posts on here about Alex's 30th Anniversary, it was meant as humourous irony!!
But here's my take on things, i have a few ideas, but absolutely nothing is set in stone, they are only ideas, some may be quite good, some definately won't but hey, if it generates thought and discussion thats the idea!!!
As some of you know I recently attended a gig commemarating the 30 anniversary of the late Bon Scott of AC/DC, it was an absolutely tremendous evening and the atmosphere was electric and a grand time was had by all.
Now, it was held in the recently built Auction Market on the outskirts of Lanark, there were folks from Devon, Wales, the Highlands and a bus was organized to bring folks from Glasgow which is about 30 miles away, and the gig sold out.
The bands were Livewire an excellent AC/DC tribute band and support was a local band Los' fer words whose geetar player is Vince Keenan of VKG graphics who makes the nice Alex Harvey T-shirts and who has donated T-shirts to both Sahbstocks.
So there's the background to my thoughts, i thought this worked well for Bon Scott, why wouldn't something similar work for Alex Harvey, i canvassed a lotta folks that night, and 99% agreed that an Alex Harvey Memorial gig was a great idea, made even better when i pointed out that there was a really good SAHB Tribute Band.
Now i know some will think why have a gig like that out in the boonies, well, Vince mentioned something that I'd never thought about, he said that what was held for Bon Scott was a first for the area we live in, and was well attended by a lot of folks who were local and obviously music buffs, whereas a gig in Glasgow like that would just really be another band playing in Glasgow.
Now like I've said feel free to add any ideas/suggestions/variations and everybodies idea is relevant, we all loved Alex and the musical legacy he left, so everyone has a stake in making sure that 30 years down the road, he may be gone, but, he'll never be forgotten!!!!!

I think what you describe, Cavey, is no more or less than another version of SAHBstock and a good excuse for a right royal knees up and get together.
What's really needed is for the memorial fund guys to make up their mind on what shape or form the memorial will take and where it will be sited. Leaflets were handed out at SAHBstock II, to no great avail - considerable funds had been raised and then they suddenly decided they wanted Trudy's blessing - which they now have. Local Authorities have been approached and a ball park figure is known. There is a link from our home page which enable you to make a donation.
The last I heard and it's the last update I was able to give to Trudy, was that they liked the notion of a bench complete with commemorative plaque, possibly to be situated in the greater environs of The People's Palace - a free museum on Glasgow Green, which has been the play area for generations of East End children, like Alex. The memorial bench or whatever to be unveiled by Trudy, Tyro and Alex Junior.
That sorted, clearly a few numbers from The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, ideally with Zal AND Julian; a guest apperance by Maggie Bell as a basic concert - ideally open air in June/July on Glasgow Green (I realise the anniversary is February). Any profit made should be donated to the primary school attended by Alex - I'm sure someone knows which and where. Failing that, to The British Heart Foundation.
I would also like to see Catherine Heffernan bring back her Heidbangers and Heros exhibition to the People's Palace, with a great many smaller works for sale - say 10% of each sale going to the chosen good cause.
I also think that Scottish Television (be it BBC or STV) and Rock Radio should be involved.
However, please remember, that we number approximately fifty people, some duplicated on the Yahoo forum. I know how many members the screen says we have but that's still not a lot of folk and the actual figure is incalculable due to ancient, unused memberships and a great many multiple memberships - our last three newest members look awfully like one and the same to me, for example.
To keep it small and cajole all your friends, family and neighbours, clearly works - that was the formula applied to both SAHBstock events. That and the fact that the proceeds go to charity is a winning combination.

[/size] It is, of course perfectly possible that I'm wrong but I thought that this post, from March, was somehow, suddenly very current - I realise that I post a lot of irrelevant nonsense - but this one should have been read - it seems that it wasn't.......
