Guys, Thought I'd join the forum and give you the 'heads up' on a special guitar for sale on ebay right now! I am selling this for the current owner and it's a real special piece of Scottish rock history....................... This guitar was custom built for Chris Glen and later used by Zal on Nazareth's 'Whatever You Want Babe' video - see link for full details and to snap it up! cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320586180270It's been up for sale before but some very interesting offers from overseas (wouldn't send by courier overseas) have led to a review of it's value. Sensible offers considered! Cheers, Darren

Crikey that's gone up from a couple of weeks ago, it was only £499 when Tom was selling it. £499 was a ridiculous cheap price for that guitar. A new Explorer today starts at £1000 and up. A good vintage one from the seventies - plus with that legacy - would go for much, much more. Here are some prices from 2007: Vintage Price Value For 2007 : 1958 - 1959 > $175 000 to $210 000 ( explorer ) 1960 - 1963 > $140 000 to $175 000 1976 - 1982 > $1 400 to $1 700 ( mahogany Body )1979 - 1983 > $1 500 to $1 700 ( explorer II ) I'm guessing Zals would be in the $1400 to $1700 range (£1000 and up ) without its history and legacy. And those prices for the 58-63 models are not typos. Check out some of these prices: www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=Gibson+Explorer+GuitarsThese are new guitars. Vintage ones would cost more.

Yeah Ginnie, you're absolutely right about prices for this type of guitar (even standard Explorers).
I am selling this on behalf of Tom as a mate because I am a collector / dealer and I do a lot of guitar shows and have a lot of dealings in guitars in general.
It was originally listed on ebay at a 'starting' price of £499 but it would never have been allowed to go for that price (simply ended early etc)
I've had a lot of interest from USA and further afield but I will not post abroad due to the risk of damage which is becoming increasingly frequent with all of the carriers - plus they try and get out of paying out on insurance claims if it does happen!
So my friends...........this guitar is what it is...........a custom built guitar by the man who was luthier to the stars like Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page and built for Chris, then used by Zal with video provenence and any fan of SAHB or Nazareth will instantly recognise...........rareity (1 of 1), star owned and played, visual / video evidence and it actually 'rocks' as a guitar!
So Ginnie is absolutely right it what he says...............and this is a vintage 1977 guitar - without all the above history.......buy - buy - buy - buy - buy (sensible offers considered also)
Darren

If they were all still together, If they were touring, If they were on Jools Holland, If even 1% of the world only knew.............. but it aint gonna happen pal. I wish you well, have a karma, you'll need one.

Hi Darren, curiosity begs me ask, are you selling the Explorer on behalf of our Tom?
Surely, if offers in the right ball park are coming in from overseas. it makes sense to let it go - The Angry Haggis made it safe and well and is looking forward to another lovely snowy winter!

Yeah, selling for Tom and as mentioned in the listing the guitar has had a headsock repair - a long journey at the perillous hands of UPS or DHL is enough to break even new guitars so that's why it won't go overseas (that's how the original break happened).
As for price - it is about right for a 70's custom made guitar by a famous luthier such as Dick Knight - even without it's SAHB / Naz history - the right person who is a fan or just a collector of one-off custom guitars will appreciate it's heritage and pay what they go for - the vintage and rare guitar market is a little down on the past 2 years but in 5 years a 1977 Dick Knight Custom Explorer may be worth £5k regardless if it had been owned by Frank Spencer or Slash - that's how it is.....

As you are all aware it's a real special piece of Scottish rock history.......................
