It was nearly ' the gig that never was '............ We travelled down from Glasgow at lunch-time Monday. Sharon and I and Andy and Janice drove by car, Brian, Richy and Davieand g-friends, in the van.
We got to the hotel first......and I took really unwell. Really sick. Had to take tablets and go to bed. Sharon txt the guys and said it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to get to the soundcheck, I was feeling SO ill....... Tom from the support band soundchecked my bass, but the panic was on......no-one would know how I was 'till I woke up.
I surfaced at 7 pm and thankfully the sickness had stopped and 'gingerly' we headed to the gig..........Relieved faces allround..... but could I play ? Andy suggested I sat on a seat and just get through the set ! Ha Ha....... How can you strike some Chris Glen-poses from a chair ?
Thankfully the adreniline kicked in and I got through the set, although it seems I had a chalk-white-Zal-face when I came off.
The Crook crowd was fantastic. I think we were just so different from the usual rock-covers bands they see, and there was one guy who saw SAHB 12 times in the 70's........and thought we did an astounding tribute to his fave band if all time....a great compliment indeed.
After much SAHB-chatting with locals, and sharing of whiskey of all things !, it was back to Glasgow for the van-guyz and onto Newcastle for Shaz (SAHBette) and I, where my post-illness treat was the purchase of a new baby (my 6th)........a lovely new bass guitar which will have it's debut on Friday night (Hogmanny Gala Ball)
Best wishes for a Happy 2011 to everyone.......... and let's get this important Alex/SAHB-year off to a flyer with as many true SAHB fans as possible coming along to 'The Alex Harvey Story' in February............ Be good x Jack.
