..........and what a story it was, a great night in fact a Sensational night, the musicians one and all played out of their skins, one music buff stated that he was getting the bargain of the year, he had paid ten times more to see lesser performances, high praise indeed and well deserved too, a special mention to our own Jack Mcdougall who put all this together , ye played a blinder in every sense of the word!!!! The usual suspects were there , the Bard of Barrow in Furness Peterbarrow in great form and singlehandedly helping the recession by reducing the Guiness surplus!!, platterpete being his usual cheery self and always a pleasure, the lovely Penny out without the peacocks, our own Catherine of the Glen, who as always was a pleasure to be in company with, the lovely Elaine who was as always a wee dynamo of fun, the indefatigable Big Hoggy who is an unsung hero at times or as T.K. said a Leg-end !!, Stu and Isobel working away selling t-shirts , DVDs etc , a pair of grafters both, also Fi and Suze shaking buckets at folks for their loose change, and Ina Fischlin from the "Nots" doing the same and Penny too!!! We had our fair share of celebs, the thespian son of the man himself Alex Harvey jnr esquire, who was there in full effect all evening and had a grand time, on the subject of thespians Mr Jon Morrison was there and helped out as well, as always an absolute gent, we had with us Mr. Le roi Jones former Zal band member also formerly of the Tubes, a very interesting and charismatic guy, we also had Captain Jack Sparrow, yep thats right Capt.Jack himself, the man is amazing, when we have celebs at a SAHB or SAHTB gig we don't f**k about!!!! Myself with Capt Jack our Penny with the man himself Alex meets Alex Two of the three gorgeous Sahbettes (oh be still my beating heart!) Myself with the inimitable Mr Le Roi Jones Boyzone - the new line up!! A Sensational night and a great success, all who made it so, take a bow!!!

What a fantastic night of music and celebration of Alex's birthdate....... and all to benefit his forthcoming Memorial . SAHBsters all pulling together to make things happen, and a generous, passionate crowd..... couldn't have asked for it to go any better. Alex Harvey junior attending and enjoying every minute was the icing on the cake for me. Hope you all enjoyed being part of it,........ Thanks....................
The total funds raised last night was £1407.95 (with hopefully a few more 'late' £'s to be added.) I'm sure you'll agree a very tidy sum to add to the funds.
I'll arrange to hand over the final amount to Stuart (Treasurer) asap. Thanks again. Jack

It was a great night and a fantastic weekend. Lovely to catch up with the magnificient Bard of Barrow again (big, big, hugs) and I was glad to find out today that he survived his own cooking when he got home!! Met up with lovely Sahbsters too, Cavey, Suze, Hoggy, Elaine, Catherine and met some new people that had become friends on Faceache, John, Wayne, Kat, Karen and Karen. The event itself was absolutely brilliant, all the bands were terrific and it was great to meet Alex junior, Le Roi, and also met Brian for the first time.
The whole weekend was just so great I can't really put it into words. I'm hoping that Platterpete will relate the story of our trip from Cardiff Airport, cos it will be funnier coming from him.
PS Does anyone know if there are any tshirts left?

Richy is a real talent.........outstanding at several instruments, and plays solo around Glasgow. His portral of Alex now, from his early career to his final songs is quite brilliant. And any vocalist will tell you the incredible vocal range range Alex had, while maintaining power and rawness. Very difficult to replicate.
The '50's/60's' Harvey band was made up of 'slightly older' musicians I knew from around Glasgow........ I only played bass to take the average age of the band down a bit !!!!!lol They met the previous Monday for the 1st time and rehearsed that night for 3 hours..... I think they did a decent job..........

Was nearly in tears a few times they and Richy were so good.

The organisers of Saturday evening's absolute triumph were faced with and overcame - in style - assorted glitches and let downs - the yes/no sax player was just one. The projector in Ivory Blacks being in the midst of a major malfunction rather scuppered the planned opening sequence of Alex footage accompanied by a narrator telling the Alex Harvey Story. The following words may turn up on a video clip or DVD or whatever but for those who could not be there, for those who don't know - they explain just why we were all there.
In the beginning there was Alex Harvey, of whom a great many tales and urban legends have been passed from one generation to the next, now our grandchildren are fans, so, it goes on.
This evening, his birthday, we are here to add to those legends; to increase the number of good home folks inspired by Alex Harvey - to celebrate him.
Famously and accurately, he was Scotland’s Tommy Steele, that is a matter of public record; I called the zoo but there are no lions there who remember Alex the lion tamer.
This man’s talents and need to perform the blues & rock and roll music he had grown up with through the 50’s, and later his own compositions, from The Alex Harvey Soul Band, through the Hair Band and perhaps most famously The Sensational Alex Harvey Band in the early 70’s and onto The New Band and finally The Electric Cowboys ,in the early 80’s drove him on, seems like NO was not a word he cared to dwell upon.
From the first time he picked up his first guitar, Alex started to win our minds our hearts our very souls. From “do you believe me”?? to “I was framed”, the character and charisma of this showman, who was second to none, had us eating from the palm of his hand and hungry for more.
He preached peace and save the planet before it was fashionable, he brought us Vambo the peaceful vandal and an infamous relative, in Isobel Goudie, we walked along Action Strasse, we sailed with the Tomahawk Kid, we were all NEXT and just longing to swim right up The River of Love.
We are here this evening, yes, to have fun and enjoy the music but mainly we are here to raise Money Honey for the Alex Harvey Memorial Fund. So, please, buy raffle tickets and put all your loose change and more if you’d like to in the collection buckets that are going around There was once a blue plaque sited in a play park, near where Alex lived – God bless Glasgow – apparently it was stolen – so no permanent memorial commemorates this man in our city, in his city.
A few years back, some people on one of the forums dedicated to Alex thought it was a good idea to right this terrible wrong. They launched an appeal and donations have been made, the total now stands around the £1600 mark. They thought perhaps a park bench with a commemorative plaque, sited in the grounds of the Peoples Palace, a museum in the east end of Glasgow that celebrates Glasgow and Scotland in many different and eclectic ways.
Upon approaching the council & the Palace to sort out planning permission and so on, the museum pondered – why not have an exhibit in the Peoples Palace dedicated to Alex Harvey? That is in the pipeline and we hope to raise enough money to have a bust of Alex commissioned – maybe still a park bench too!! So, with a deadline of February 2012, the 30th anniversary of his death, Glasgow will at last properly commemorate and celebrate one of her undersung sons the man who was and still is, quite simply
The Sensational Alex Harvey

And here's a hoot!! Alex Junior, every time he took a raffle ticket out of the bucket (many thanks to Penny ) he muttered, I'm trying to palm these tickets for my pal........
The SENSATIONAL tee shirt was won by Mike Drew!!
The 12 Year Old Ballantyne's Special Reserve Whisky was won by Caveman!!!!!
The signed by His Chrisness copy of THAT Melody Maker front page from back in the day was won by Ina of The Nots - who had to have the whole concept of a raffle explained to her, before she was launched into the crowd to sell tickets!!
The SAHB "LIVE" Album + programme were won by Brian, Zal in The Tributes!
Honest Injun, all fair and square!!
Mrs Foster donated a litre bottle of Scotch - but had it locked in a secure cupboard down beside the dressing room and could not get access to it for the bottle to be on stage for the raffle - so the poor wee man (unknown by me) never did get his bottle of Scotch!!!!
MANY thanks to those who gave prizes at such short notice No bath salts, though!!
