I have not been on the board too often lately due to personal issues, but when i have a minute i always pop on to see how everybody is, but lately i have noticed the board is almost empty, whilst Facebook has a growing number of fans, The question is..........Is Facebook killing our board?

No, I don't think so.... At least not in my case. It just seems that on this forum, there are no discussions goin' on - hardly ever. It's all hello, happy birthday, goodbye, ate supper, listened to ... I belong to a HOCKEY forum, where we discuss music more than on here (Art, too!).
I should say that I've noticed lots of activity from Craig, Crookie and Zal on Facebook. Our Tom too...
I'll try to get some threads started, Missus...

If people don't bother to come on here how can discussions get started or fun be had? It takes more than just the usual suspects to keep something going. I love the forum and I for one don't want to see it die. Ive got more friends on here than Ive got on FB. As Craigie Dee has said himself, if you don't like someone on FB you can just dump them. I find that a bit sad. And I have to say I often feel excluded on FB in a way Ive never felt on here.

Well, I've probably started more "discussion" type threads on here than anyone...

I don't do facebook but look on here twice a day (excluding weekends) but don't post too often. Still like to see the interesting stuff other folk put on though. Also I hear too many bad things about facebook especially the exchanges that include viruses!! So I'll keep reading as long as people post. If regular contributors are absent for a while I am sure it is for a genuine reason. Unless it is about crap jackets and the message is in 'Borat Engrish'.

I know a lot of my posts are rubbish, but as I said above, unless people post on here its not going to be interesting is it? It may well be that people don't want to know what you had for dinner, but no one wants to be serious all the time. And Mehrsfan is right, the reason regular contributors aren't on for a while is usually for genuine reasons, life gets in the way sometimes!!

And I didn't say that threads about dinner etc. was bad or anything. I contribute to them too. But we could use more discussion threads too. ... and I waste waaaay too much time on Facebook.

Your probably right about discussion threads, Ginnie. I would prefer it on here at least there are (usually) people to talk to, most people hide themselves away on FB.

Sorry Penny - that's two days in a row I've missed responding to you on FB. Its not on purpose! I often go away from the computer . I couldn't hear the "beep" thing cause either I'm in the back playing my guitars or I have the music too loud too hear. I'll try to get you tomorrow.

The one thing I enjoy on facebook is the "chat" feature We brought this up before but I think if we had this feature for members only we might be more engaging. I dont see how that would put an end to Threads either. Threads are great because you respond when you want to. I dont substitute FB for the forum ,unless theres no alternantive.

A "Chat" area could easily be added to this forum - problem is, no one would use it. I know this because I've seen it added to other forums - one with thousands of members - and it was ignored. Plus Vic, when we want to chat, everyone else is in bed. ;D

You've missed responding to me a few times on here too, Ginnie!! ;D ;D Doesn't matter though, I know you will be around somewhere at sometime for a chat one of these days. I know your not ignoring me, you wouldn't do that. I know that if there was a 'chat' facility on here I would use it and I know there are a few others who would too. PMing back and fore is too long winded for a conversation. Also there are a few people I like to hide from on FB ( ) and if your hidden from 'chat' no one else knows your there, so it would be good to be able to 'chat' on here instead. Can't be bothered with FB today, too tired and it was playing up mightily yesterday, also, its very boring when there is no one to 'chat' to.

when I started FB and myspace and youtube channel it was all because of the band that I was in at the time for promotion and to try to generate interest in the bands music. Like penny I sometimes feel excluded some what on FB because I don't have a knack for politics or religion so I don't comment very much at all. I do check for messages daily and post something rarely. This is a great Forum and very similar to the Fender Lounge Forum were I am pretty regularly. Life does have a way of grabbing your attention so I visit as much as possible.

I believe that Fb has had/continues to have an effect on the forum but that's not to say that it is killing it off. The stand-out advantage of the forum is that everyone on here is a dedicated SAHBster, which makes it special and acts as a bond between us.
Without the forum would there have been a SAHBstock 1 (let alone 2&3) or Alex's birthday tribute? These events have raised a lot of money for their respective causes as well as providing an opportunity for us to gather together to celebrate the fantastic music that we all love and to renew old acquaintances at times when the band is not performing.
The forum has its quiet periods because sometimes 'life' gets in the way, but I think that it's far from being an irrelevance or a dying duck!
Just my two pen'orth.

*Nips into phone box as lurker, spins round several times, emerges as Sahbster ZigzagW, legs slightly apart, hands on hips, looking sternly to left( ooo, little bit of free politics , Brucie bonus )* I'm not a user of Facebook or Myspace or any other interwebby chitty chatty wotsits in general, being a bit of a reclusive, social cripple type of individual , even cyber-socialising can at times be a tad challenging for moi. I do however visit here regularly and log on/contribute from time to time. The only other chatroom type thingys I use are two that are directly connected to my deep love of West Ham United Football Club( Ms Brady... ) If I may be so bold, an observation,or two, this could go on so I'd change channel for a while if I were you :- The Hammers type forums have very large numbers of contibutors and as such are extremely lively and dynamic( not an accusation hurled at the team too often in recent times). The reason is there is something 'going on' with yer' typical footy club, almost round the clock, most of it revolves around hearsay/rumour/gossip, and opinions thereof. There are always 'heated' debates on all manner of non-footy related topics too,(people fall out with each other too,but keep coming back for more, they're only words after all There,I've said it). Add to that the day to day news and activities of the club its easy to see why these topics command thousands, yes thousands of replies, hundreds and hundreds of pages of words and associated links. Are you still reading? Gawd' bless ya The difficulty(as I see it) with a small, but perfectly formed forum like this is its limitations in providing new subjects for discussion as the main subject of the site (i.e. SAHB) is,in the main inactive. Therefore as Ginnie says, all we have left is the 'smalltalk' type stuff to bring to the table, nothing wrong with that, but limiting all the same. What's your favourite Sahb gig, tune, album cover can only be covered so often. A Sahb Tour, The emergence from retirement of a certain Geetar legend(Sahb with dual geetar stylee *glows*), another 'recently discovered' recording, would liven the place up, ya nowatI mean innit. Please don't think any of this is criticism of this place, its just my response to the question as a SAHB fan and non face booker. Crikey,am I still rambling on? *pops back into phone box and emerges in Tuf Wayfinders(compass in the heel), gaberdine mac, collar turned up,all lurkerish*....ah! that's more comfortable.

I use it mainly to keep in contact with family and friends. (Actually Zal posts a lot about religion - he's very anti-religion on facebook. I should tell him to come here to discuss it. But facebook is a much wider audience. ) As soon as life happens a little bit less, I will don my Guardian outfit and revitalize this forum with a vengeance!

We know what happens when religion and/or politics rear their ugly heads on here.....people take umbridge and bugger off. So its probably best not to mention it......oh, I just did. When you don your Guardian outfit will you be squeezed into the same phone box as ZZW, Ginnie?

I think Facebook will run its course and as for killing this, i hope not, as ZZW has said SAHBs inactivity is stultifying at times, not that the guys are there to keep us all amused i hasten to add, what i find unusual is that there are a shitload of SAHB fans on Facebook who have never been here???
Also, perhaps this forum is quiet because due to some recent - ish stooshies/disagreements/rows etc, a lot of folks are being really circumspect about what they post, i know i am due to being in the middle of a few rows myself, but things are cyclical usually and the forum will rise again of that i'm sure.
