I'm very happy that my wife and I are going "downhome" this summer! And that would be Newfoundland - for those who don't know, the Canadian province where I was born. We haven't been there for eight years or so so we're quite excited! God's country! Here is a map to show where I'm coming from (Toronto Airport to St. John's airport). Topsail, my home town is 12 miles outside St. John's. Thats around 2100 miles from where I live now.

Thats one heck of a journey, Ginnie!
How long will it take you from door to door, so to speak?

Thats one heck of a journey, Ginnie! How long will it take you from door to door, so to speak? Well, it takes an hour to drive to the airport. We'll be there an hour before liftoff. The jet takes about three hours to get to St. John's. Then its just a short drive to Topsail.

nice trip Ginnie-have u any family there yet? Sorry, Vic. I missed this... Yes - I will be staying at my brother(uncle)'s place. He lives in the house that I grew up in. Hopefully, we will be able to explore the island for a few days - I plan to drive to a few sites like Gros Morne and maybe to Gander (the "crossroads of the world").

Cold, clammy, foggy and miserable, eh? At least they left alive enough to complain!! It would have been a different tune they whistled if Siggy's matey boys had attacked.....erm, I mean, popped in for coffee and cake.

And can someone explain the difference between Newfoundland and Labrador and do they decide to call everywhere up there after a breed of dog? Or was it the other way round?

Newfoundland is the island. Labrador is part of the mainland of Canada. I don't know how the two got together though... oh, it was the other way around...
