Anyone still listening to vinyl? Anyone still clinging to their old stereo systems? What do you have - show us yer pics! I just set up this system: My old ROTEL AP 2400 Turntable.. (Had to order a belt from the UK for $10) Picked up an old '83 or so FISHER stereo amplifier for $8.99 at the thrift shop! When I got it home I discovered one channel wasn't working - went out and bought a fuse and it works great. 25 watts per channel of vintage power! Picked up these old speakers for ten bucks each. Not the very best, but better than what I was using before: I got my BEATLES and BOWIE albums back! Here are some of my Beatle and post-Beatle albums: So lets see your setup!

Great collection there, Ginnie. I think my husband has got all those Beatles albums on vinyl too. Will see if I can get a photo of his Rolling Stones albums and whatever else he was listening to at that time. Have still got his very old record player.....very basic in comparison with yours LOL

I have quite a few old ones but have just thought that I ought to throw the Blind Faith one that caused quite a stir on the bonfire. I think it was done to seek attention at the time but would be regarded as very inappropriate now.

I was playing Lou Reed's Berlin years ago and someone took it off the turntable and threw it across the room... in fairness, probably not the best thing to play at a party!

I have every record i ever bought- something about them- kept them clean changed stylus every 6 months and cartridge every year. All in plastic jackets.. a little over 1,000- I would say I bought at least half in CD thru the years, fact is the rest just are not available in that media. Thru no great genius of my own I've come to find out that some are quite valuable. _ I'll leave all that stuff and the guitars to the kid- I couldn't get myself to part with them- .. and the cassettes!

I never was a great record/album buyer or collector but I do have all the SAHB albums - Chris gave them to Mum - he wanted a whole set out there somewhere.......little did he know!!
I get though that you could never part with these collections, they are the soundtrack to your life.

I gotta stop getting stuff... Upgraded (I think) from my Fisher amp to a Kenwood KR-3090 ($44). Still only 25w per channel, but more vintage, with the wood sides and a built in tuner: Sounds pretty decent. Surprised at how good the tuner is.

My parents had a very large radiogram which was never going to do for my growing interest in my swelling record collection so I went out and bought what I could afford and what I thought was the dog's doodahs at the time. Garrard deck Trio Amp Sony Cassetts player Hacker speakers I still have them all somehwere and thought the mass of wires everywhere was exactly how it ought to look. I now have a Sony midi hifi which all stacks on top of itself which I got cheap when someone I knew got a job there.

The Deep Purple in Rock album that His Chrisness gave me was also played into crackledom - the cd's not the same - when I'm allowed to play it!! ;D

I remember when digital sound came out the purists said it would not replace vinyl as it did not have the same depth or character as vinyl and in comparison was a lifeless version. I now realise it was the scratchy bits and the odd hiccup that made the difference.

Whats interesting is that CD's are on their way out due to MP3 downloads, and that vinyl is coming back!

Whats interesting is that CD's are on their way out due to MP3 downloads, and that vinyl is coming back! It seems, that over the years, the in vogue mediums of how we listen to music have gone from vinyl on stereo, which was the bees pyjamas when I was a lad, ever further downhill, going backwards in quality of sound, until we're back at the not so clever quality on these new fangled tiny things, MP3 and the like.
Chris had a transistor radio that fitted in his hip pocket on which we used to listed to the pirate radio stations and early Beatles......it wiz pish too!!
Obviously they've been available all along - if you had the cash to splash - but the system that Darling Man has - this is crazy and just how daft we seem to be - takes the cd, converts the digital recording back to the original ananlogue and there you have it - no hisses or crackles - a few burps and farts though - it's like the musicians are sitting in the room with you.
I still have my SAHB vinyl though, just no way to play it

I love The Monkees, Chris bought me the single "I'm a Believer" for a birthday present, many years ago!! Also LOVE Free, have seen Paul Rogers a couple of times, just the best voice. Darling Man is a big Jonny Winter fan and sees him every time he plays at the Robin.
That collection is flourishing Sir Gin, karma
