I saw Johnny WInter years ago - I wasn't even a fan but by the end of the night I certainly was. His slide playing was incredible.
The more I play LP's the less I like the sound of CD's it seems.

*turn of phrase, I don't suppose it would fit in this way!!

I need to replace my system after it floated away in the water feature that cascaded out of my ceiling. There are not that many out there- seems everyone else thinks vinyl is a thing of the past.

Old records sound better than most cd's. However modern techniques are taking cd's to the next level. Those Beatles box sets from 2009 and The Rolling Stones digipacks are as good as the lp's. Lp's still look the best though, nothing beats buying a vintage album with a thick gatefold sleeve and studying the sleeve. They 'Feel' better too....in the same way as an old book

Pulling it out of the sleeve, to the turntable, a couple of revolves with the dust cleaner, setting the stylus down. Sitting back with the album in hand in the prime listening spot and reading it front to back, and if I'm lucky its a gatefold with neat pictures and text and sometimes inside a poster. I'm listening to Bowie's "Station to Station" album and even "Word on a Wing" is sounding great right now. Anyone want any CD's?

I put my main "vintage" system together recently. Very low cost! Amplifier - 1986 Fisher CA35 - $9.99 (plus .40 for a fuse) Turntable - Rotel RP2400 already had these but could have been bought for $40 lets say Cartridge - Empire 4000 XL - this was taken from another turntable I had bought for $50. So lets say $25 Speakers - Technics B 4000 $40 TOTAL: $115. Sounds fantastic! Oh, I also have a subwoofer that was given to me hooked up to the system.
