Don't know why I'm even bothering to post this, but might give somebody a chuckle, it certainly does me and one of my drinking buddies when we think of this Dick we both know. Years ago I used to do SAHB compilation tapes, (remember them)? I would give them to 4 or 5 of my drinking buddies, who didn't know any SAHB, in time they grew to love the tapes I gave them. One of them was a decent guitar player, who played in local pub bands, but he was a total Dick and gave us all a laugh at some of the bull he used to come out with.
Anyhow we got to talking about what guitarists he liked, and I asked him what he though of Zal Cleminson's playing on the tape I gave him? His answer was "It's the notes he doesn't play that make him sound so good".
Now is that a guitarist's way of describing another guitarist technique, he had us all rolling round the floor, spilling our pints, or was he talking out of his rear?
Had to keep it clean here, not sure if mild swearing is permitted.

Other examples would include: Neil Young, Robbie Robertson, B.B. King, George Harrison and even Pete Townsend.

Now, you see, I know what you mean, it DOES sound like bull, however, the same has been written somewhere about His Chrisness, knowing when to come thundering in and knowing when to hang right back - any eejit can go full tilt all the way through a track and completely bugger it up (like the wee boy that SHOUTS, out of tune, all the way through the school nativity play) so sounds like Dick, may well be a dick but had half an idea what he was on about!!
Mild swearing seems not to bring the wrath of the gods upon us; in fact, in the early days, one of the trials was to get past the (American) profanity checker; "phuck" became popular and "cock" had to be removed, as did "spoon" from the list of forbidden words so that Penny could mention her peacocks without fear of them becoming "thingys" and we could mention Billl Spooner & the Tubes too, without him being a "thingy" as well!! However, if you want to use the word "bitch, you must click on the italics icon at any point during typing the word, otherwise you'll end up with "pregnant dog"!!!!ARF!!!! OOOPPPSSS!! The last laugh's on me - that's been changed too!! ;D
Thanks for coming back and posting again - it's what it's all about!!

I was afraid this guy (Dick) actually did know what he was talking about, and I kinda knew what he was talking about, but it still sounded so stupid at the time. You mentioned the great TUBES there, one of the very few bands I have not seen live regrettably. One other is The B-52's, but guess what, I noticed tonight they are playing Glasgow ABC in August, so I'm getting a trip to Glasgow after all, albeit not for the reason I was wishing for.

That's worked out well, then; the snows and monsoons should have cleared by August and you may even have a window of clement weather in which to take yourself to the People's Palace and Winter Gardens, sit on the bench, talk to the tree and admire the bust; they do a fabulous apple cake in the cafe there too!! AND.....it's all free but not the cake, obviously

Aye thanks for the tip about the apple cake/tart, I love apple cake! I may well stroll down to the Palace, was there before and took a close up of an amazing flower that was growing there, how rock'n'roll was that, lol? Get a pic of The Lovely Bench and Alex's wee heed while I'm there!
Was a bit disappointed to hear the B52's guitar player has decided not to tour with the band any more, be great if Zal could fill in for the night.
