I have been on a 45 site and the moderator there is insisting that these 45's are Alex. It sounds nothing like him. They are not listed in any discography yet he is proclaiming how he can hear it is Alex. The singer sounds black and the songs are just awful. Alex is on the cover but that is about it. Could someone please confirm these are not Alex releases?

I wondered about these songs too Ringo. According to all of the people I've asked the simple answer is no, they are not by Alex.
The two singles were released on an Italian jazz label called GTA. Both have the same cover, one is orange and the other green. All 4 songs are covers of hits from the late fifties/early 60's. Everyone who has heard them says the same thing 'That's not Alex' haha!!! So, in my book they are best avoided. They don't come cheap either.
Out of curiosity can you provide a link to the guys page? If he has them up for streaming i'm sure other people will agree with us.

Slooping is a mistake by the way. The song is a famous old pop tune 'Hang On Sloopy'. Released by The McCoys, The Supremes and even The Yardbirds among many others.
'Mashed Potatoes' is actually '(Do The) Mashed Potatoes' and 'Do The Dog' is a variation of 'Can Your Monkey Do The Dog?'.

Great info Scott, have another karma.

Neither track sounds even remotely like Alex, from any era; at the risk of offending diehard fans, Alex had an atrocious version of an American accent and, quite frankly was not quite so tuneful. (that's not to say he couldn't sing - despite my Dad always saying "he could sing nane" - he just couldn't sing like this.
Good points and well put in the debate, Ringo, your moderator needs a word with himself; it's surely not all about him being right all the time and dissing other sites. Sounds like a bit of an arse to me.
Would it be helpful if I emailed the links to Alex junior for his input?Might put that moderator's gas on a peep. (sadly, no fingers crossed smiley!! )

Very well said both! The peeps on here are going to know a thing or several about Alex's recordings AND what his voice sounds like, but as TK says with some people it's in one ear and out t'other! (Nearly had wandering apostrophe syndrome then!)

Fired away it was, before any response to my question - I've rather taken agin your high handed moderator and would quite like to see him crash and burn!! (not like me, really!)Alex sent me a text, he couldn't pick it up properly on his phone but will do on his pc.........if he can gets the kids off it!!! His wife says he's a Luddite and is not really very pc literate but if I text him to check email, he does. Nice man.
I'll curl up and burst if he says it is his Dad!!

Here is what Alex himself said on the matter in an interview around 1975:
"Thers's this EP with my picture on the front. Two of the guys in the band came back from Italy and said, "When did you do that?". It had "Mashed Potatoes". I've never sung that in my life. It wasn't me on any of the songs. It's a mystery."
