At thr risk of bluesrider spraying coffee with contempt, I'm rather partial to a bit of Kiss, especially the 80's and 90's stuff they did without makeup. Seen em 9 times, and it's like sticking your head inside a jet engine (in a good way).
Any love here for the New York foursome? ;D

When God created man he didnt have enough taste to give us all a share so those who missed out became Kiss fans.Zen youre such an ace guy to have such terrible luck in the taste department...... I'll say a prayer for you next time I go to church(last time was 1969)

I LOVE KISS!!!!!!!
I think they're feckin' brilliant - they just took to the nth degree in great American style the very type of rock theatre that Alex seemed to favour from time to time
I LOVE KISS

I have a soft spot for Kiss. Listened to them a LOT when they first came out - their first couple of albums were not sophisticated by any means (who needs that anyway?) but they sure had the spirit of rock'n roll plus bits of comic books and vampira... Their first "live" album was very good too - even though most of it was done in the studio!
I still listen to them - Strutter, Rock'n roll All NIte - good stuff. I'm not prissy when it comes to rock'n roll!

Except for the drums... From the same show - I think this is much better, and it has ALL the Kiss members... That's Entertainment folks! Oh! Think back to 1975 ... glam was waning, you were 17 years old (well, I was )... We had Roxy, Bowie and who else? Alice Cooper went solo. Gabriel left Genesis. The Stooges weren't around. The New York Dolls were non-functional. T. Rex were done. Lou Reed only had Metal Machine Music to offer... There was a gap to be filled until punk came along a couple of years later. Sure, we had a couple of good new bands in Rush, Nazareth, Aerosmith... But along comes Kiss. No pretenses of being proficient like those "progressive" bands like Yes, ELP, King Crimson... Hey man, they just had a dream - dress up like comic book heroes and play rock'n roll real loud! Give the fans a real show, don't go half way. And thats just what they did. They were more punk than they've ever been credited for, only they brought lots of glam to the mix too. Lennon said this about glam , "It's just rock'n roll with makeup on".
Now I don't listen to Kiss a lot nowadays - I find their music irritating after a few songs... but back then they were the right stuff for the right time. Just my two cents...

There's a guy called Mike Japp who regularly plays down our local who co wrote a few songs with Kiss, Down on Yer Knees (I think it's about cleaning the front step) on Killers and Saint and Sinner from the brilliant Creatures of the Night album. He also wrote on Paul Stanley's solo album. Must be a bit of a come down for him playing in a little village pub. He is a bit slimey though, slowly walking though the bar, letting the ladies touch his guitar...I kid you not.

He's credited on the Kiss tracks as Mikel Japp - no idea what his background is, but he did write those songs with Paul Stanley.
