Here is some great footage of (IMHO) the ONLY band who can hold a candle to SAHB in my affections - The Tubes classic line-up playing White Punks On Dope on The Tube tv show. Such a brilliant band in their day, and surely the closest to a US counterpart of our boys - amazing musicians, especially Bill Spooner (guitar), Rick Anderson (bass) and Prairie Prince (drums).
Enjoy!

Another TUBES goodie - "Turn Me On" (audio) from 1979's Remote Control album. This track has been mentioned by Rammstein and KMFDM as an influence - one of the first times big whacking synths were matched against hard rock dynamics - electro-pop this is not. Play as loud as you can ;D

I've never been that much into the Tubes I'm afraid...
I bought their first album when it came out, and even then thought they were a "pretend" glam band. Of course I could be very, very wrong on that but that was my feeling at the time. I DID play that album a lot in the seventies and I was the only one I knew who had it. Later on when the Tubes went mainstream and got rid of the makeup they were much more palatable to the public.
Speaking of SAHB similarities...
I think the closest Canadian band would be Max Webster - good musicianship, songwriting and a very strong sense of humour.

And bear in mind it's 30 years old! ;D Sounds like it! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I guess we can't agree on everything, Ian! But I'd easily place that song at the punk-to-new wave period. And no, I'm not picking on you, just saying my opinion... Oh, BTW did I properly thank you for the Skype sessions at Sahbstock? If not, I will now - it was a day to remember and very special. Thank you Ian!

I remember as a teenager watching the TV, only BBC1, BBC2 and STV in those days and there was a full concert of the Tubes in London on, and i'd never heard of them before that, and it was heady stuff in those days, Fee Waybill chasing people up and down the aisles with a chainsaw!
Doing the track What do you want from life? and having contestants from the audience up on stage for the mock game show, i was riveted to my seat, bearing in mind this was not Top of The Pops stuff, this was serious music, yet these guys were having a ball, which was a bit of a breath of fresh air, given that at times some of the artists on things like the Old Grey Whistle Test could be a bit overly serious and a bit up their own arse on occasion.
I'm sure the programme aired on BBC2 , but idon't know if it exists any more, i'm also fairly sure the gig filmed was the gig that the Live album was recorded from, anybody out there got any ideas???

I've heard that there will be a fair bit of Hammersmith 78 footage in Mike Cotten's upcoming documentary on the Tubes. thetubesproject.com/Check out the YouTube page on the site for some great rare footage too ;D Would be great to have a DVD of the whole show though!

Always liked The Tubes but never delved too deep into their albums, now, thanks to Caveman, I've heard (nearly?) everything and I love 'em. Cheers Mr Thomson sir.
