Great gig at the Ferry on Dec 27th. After gig got talking to a bloke from Stoke about YES....what a band!!
It seems we both spent our younger years listening to SAHB, YES, Genesis. I saw YES ( or what is left of them ! ) at Edinburgh last month, and even without the great Jon Anderson and Rick, they still played a great set. Anyone else impressed with Edinburgh Usher Hall???.....great venue !!

Welcome to the forum bj. Did you hear the Planet Rock interview with Chris Squire? He was talking about making an album with the current non Jon Anderson line up and playing live tracks like Tempus Fuget, Machine Messiah and Astral Traveller.
Was the guy from Stoke by any chance wearing a dodgy hat?

The guy from Stoke did indeed have long hair, beard etc etc...!!.......and a dodgy hat..!!!
YES played the tracks you mentioned.I thought Jon Anderson's voice was a one off but the new guy sound just like him, althoiugh he obviously doesn't have Anderson's stage presence.

I stopped buying Yes albums after 1974. Did they have any good ones after that? I did get Chris Squire's solo album "Fish Out of Water" which is actually quite good. I also bought Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman solo albums which are better left uncommented on.
But I must say, their first four or five albums ranged from really good to great. My list of top Yes albums:
1 Yessongs (triple live album) 2 Close to the Edge 3 The Yes Album 4 Fragile 5 Time and a Word 6 Relayer 7 Tales from Topographic Oceans
I'm not really familiar with any of their other albums except "90125" which I didn't like at all.

All brilliant albums that I never tire of playing. Post 1974 though, Relayer is amazing if only for The Gates of Delirium. A truly must have is Going For the One, Awaken is my favourite Yes track ever. Tormato is okay but has too much filler on it. Drama is an outstanding album (especially if you are into the more heavier Yes sound) 90125, Big Generator and Talk are pretty decent but a million miles away from Fragile, although out of the 3 I'd say you would like Talk more. Union is okay but doesn't seem to have any direction. Open Your Eyes was such a dissappointment and better avoided. The Ladder is great in parts but again has some filler in it. Magnification is another outstanding album and back to the old yes style The 2 Keys to Ascension albums are well worth getting, the live tracks of the classics are great and the new tracks are pretty good too, especially Mind Drive. All the studio tracks from Keys 1 and 2 are available on Keys Studio (duh) well worth a listen. So I would reccommend: Going For the One Relayer Drama Magnification Keys to Ascension 1 and 2 Hope this helps

Going for the one is a great album and well worth a listen. My daughter bought me the CD recently for my birthday, and it was great to hear it again after a few years. I agree with Ginnie, the triple album Yessongs is YES live at their very best, and for anyone not familiar with YES music, this is the album to listen to first. I'm not familiar with the post Going for the One albums as the band where going thru their many changes including their catastrophic Buggles period. The gig I saw in November included Rick Wakeman's son on keyboards. He was very good indeed but obviously not in the same league as his old man. Bluesrider....where you the guy I spoke to about YES at the Ferry... ?

Going for the one for me is an amazing album & the last great album Yes released. Turn of the century would bring a tear to a glass eye!! I remember them on that tour starting with Parallels. (I have a DVD of them at the Glasgow Apollo on the GFTO tour)

I was also at the GFTO tour date at the grand old Apollo. Parallels is a great track and gets everyone pumped up from the off. I remember Chris Squire being brilliant that night.
There have been a few old bands touring recently. I managed to see Genesis at Manchester in 2007, they also were excellent, but Phil Collins won't entertain reforming the band, and I think the last tour was their swansong.

I don't know if something is the matter with me but I seem to have a listening "cutoff" date of 1973-74 for many bands... thus... the LAST Rolling Stones album I bought was "It's Only Rock'n Roll" - after Taylor left, I left too...
the LAST Genesis album I bought was "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" - after Gabriel left...
the LAST Yes album I listened to was Relayer - Moraz is not a Wakeman...
I was going to put Alice Cooper on this list too, but realized that I didn't like Muscle of Love but DID enjoy Welcome to My Nightmare and Go to Hell... after that, Nada...
ELP - after Brain Salad Surgery I stopped listening to them, although have heard pieces of "Works" over the years...

Could very well be but I've never heard it. I think those years - 1976 and a few years after that I got into punk a bit - Sex Pistols, Clash - but I always continued to buy Neil Young, Bowie and a few other "oldtimers"...
In fact, I find that I've been rediscovering a lot of seventies music I didn't hear back in the day.
