Anyone else here into, or heard of them?
Only heard of them a week ago, played the latest album last weekend, read that they were playing fairly locally a couple of days later, then went to see them thursday night at The Underworld, Camden Town
Awesome gig, best of the year so far. Ok, it's the first of the year, but, with Them Crooked Vultures @ the Albert Hall coming up next, it's gonna be a good start to 2010.
I'm not a big fan of the current crop of prog bands (and even less so, of the original prog bands), tho I like a bit of Porky Tree now & then, but when I 1st listened to the latest album 'Cheat The Gallows', I didnt know they were supposed to be prog, didnt even know what they looked like (which prob would have given it away!), so I didnt have any preconceptions or prejudices.
What are they like? There's big bits of King Crimson, Uriah Heep, Yes, Sabbath, and little bits of SAHB, Queen, The Beatles... you get the picture. But they sound a whole lot more current than that lot would suggest.
This one's pretty typical:

Hairy Russell Brand lookalike & mainman Damon Fox is a great frontman too, managing to sing, play 2 keyboards (Hammond organ & Mellotron) crack jokes & exchange banter with the crowd.
He said he hoped they'd be back here in the autumn, so fingers crossed. But that's what Chickenoot said last summer, and they've disappeared off the face of the earth
Well worth checking out, if you havent already, and if you like a bit of variety to go with your Iommi-style riffage
Ooh, forgot to mention that Priestess were support, which helped make it an even better night out. Initially not as keen on their 2nd album as their 1st, but it may be a grower. Bit like Diamond Head would be if they formed a few years ago instead of 30 years ago. Still sounds fresh enough tho ;D
