I agree that he is an awful singer and his harmonica playing is useless, but if he wasn't so bad we wouldn't have this watch out for the impression starting at 1.23 www.youtube.com/watch?v=AguZSj9nEUg&feature=related

Bob Dylan is a genius, pure and simple. One of the most creative and important songwriters ever. As far as his vocal abilities - listen to his early stuff. No, they aren't pitch perfect but who cares? There are a few others too that don't have "great voices", like Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen, but that doesn't take away the impact of their songs - in a lot of cases it adds to it.
I defy any singer anywhere to improve this song:
Dylan could also play guitar. A staccato/blues style thats not easy to emulate. Listen to his LP's A Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, Another Side of Bob Dylan... His harmonica playing? I really don't know if its good or bad, its like trying to judge some abstract paintings. I do know that its an individual style that no one else can do, and that says somethin'. His live stuff is a very mixed bag. Some of it is unlistenable - like the live album with the Grateful Dead. Then there are gems like the Royal Albert Hall concert in 1966, or some of the Rolling Thunder Revue material in 1975.

I think Dylan's singing is difficult to listen to but what a way with words, Ginnie's right, the man's a genius, poet for the people.

Never seen him live but from what i've heard from friends who have seen him live loadsa times it's a real hit n miss...some great gigs & some really awful ones where he had no respect for the audience at all.
Always felt Dylan was a total contradiction...all these protest type songs then treated people very poorly!!

My brother in law is a huge Dylan fan - he must have over forty of his albums. But he couldn't sit through the whole concert when Dylan played here a few months ago.
