Just watched the MSG 30th anniversary show on blu-ray recorded from last years show in Tokyo. Chris Glenn gets name checked several times in the extras, one comment from Neil Murray, who is playing bass for this 5 date tour, Chris is a great bass player, why me when Michael could have picked him? I'm asking the same question for those who might know?
I know Chris was not on the 1st MSG album, but appeared on the following couple, as well as the Budokan show and album.
I feel Chris would have been the more obvious choice here, I mean all due respect to Neil Murray, but he doesn't exactly display much interest on the stage.
Was Chris not asked or was he otherwise engaged?

I'm asking the same question for those who might know? I know Chris was not on the 1st MSG album, but appeared on the following couple, as well as the Budokan show and album. I feel Chris would have been the more obvious choice here, I mean all due respect to Neil Murray, but he doesn't exactly display much interest on the stage. Was Chris not asked or was he otherwise engaged? She who does know is right here - Neil asked Chris the self same question in the dressing room in Oxford a year past in December (I think it was then).
The intention was to re-create the lineup from the time and so it was Neil. Who seems to be a very nice, quiet, unassuming man with perhaps the air of a retired geography teacher about him - Whitesnake is certainly not the thing that leaps to mind!!
Chris gave Neil the EBS contacts in Japan and Chris carried on with that tour while Neil went back to the house band for Queen the Musical (again, I think - I should pay more attention, sorry!!)
On his return from Japan Neil sent Chris a really nice email, thanking him for the contact details which had made life a lot easier for him - he also mentioned that it probably didn't matter WHO was on bass, as Michael barely spent 10 minutes (all added up-throughout the 10 day trip!!(a bit more politely than that!!) Maybe because they're just 2 quiet guys.
Chris has played subsequently with MSG and will do again; in fact is in Holland for 2 gigs (festivals, I think) on 17 & 18 of this month.
I reckon it just depends on what Michael feels like doing at the time, maybe trying to keep it fresh and cover everything he's done - you'll see on the very 1st page of the forum that an album has just been done, described by Michael's manager as "reminiscinces" when he was asking Chris if he & Chris Slade would do a couple of tracks - as it happens they were in Europe with Chris Slade's band "Steel Circle", so, on a day off from the tour, made the recording.
The line up that Michael is touring with for now, is a kind of UFO'y looky likey, as opposed to MSG, with Pete Way on bass, Elliott, President of Dean Guitars, (the flying V) also plays bass with Michael from time to time, usually in the USA, where he's based.
If Mike Drew(he was there too) wasn't on his way to Download Festival to see Alice Cooper, he could correct any misinformation here - but I think that's pretty much right.
But I bet only Chris can make Michael smile and laugh on stage...........and do that daft duckwalk!!
Hope this helps.
ps......one "n"

Bout Ye Catherine? (Belated), thanks a lot for the very informed reply, think I had a good few bevvies in me when I posted that question, and just remembered about it a couple of weeks later, lol. Me and the missus really miss coming over to see the SAHB shows every year, I wish something could develop there, but it's great to see the spirit carries on with all the usual suspects posting on a fairly regular basis here, I still tune in now and again, just in case the Impossible Dream re-appears.
Was over for RUSH there last month, fantastic show!
Cheers! Stephen Crawford
