I hope it's ok to post this here, I'm assuming that Alex would have approved and that will make it ok. This Sunday, May 26th 2013, we are staging the Glossop Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Concert Against Female Genital Mutilation. Featuring anybody who turns up and is willing to sing Jimmie Rodger's songs, the money raised will go direct to Amnesty International's END FGM campaign. For some reason the country music community has not responded favourably to this event. Maybe they are a bit closed minded. I know that Alex Harvey fans will be much more understanding. For those that don't know, Alex recorded two Jimmie Rodger's songs: T.B. Blues in the 1960s and Gambling Bar Room Blues from Penthouse Tapes. Everybody is welcome, so if you can make it please come along. If you can't make it please consider recording a JR song and sending it to us to use at the event. Thanks very much - daniel

All the very best for this event Daniel, here's hoping it gets far more support than you expect. I'm sure Alex would have approved very much as we all know he was against violence and especially any abuse towards women. He would probably be there giving a song or two as well!
Let us know how it goes

Welcome back, Daniel and with news of an event for such a very good cause, I saw a documentary on this very subject, years ago and was horrified. How much do we take for granted in the West? Incalculable, probably.
All the very best of luck with it and, as Penny says, you'll get many more in attendance than you presently anticipate - look what happened at The People's Palace in Feb 2012........two and a half thousand good home folks!!
All the very best of luck with it and I'm sure the other forumsters will agree, it's your forum too, come and post as you will.
Good luck!!

Thanks for the kind comments. I hoped the country music community would really help out with this one, but maybe it's a bit too much for them. If anybody would like to come along, contribute a song by video or even buy a ticket with no intention of showing up I'd be very grateful. You might find this interesting, I only learned about it yesterday
