There was an email sent out on Wed, welcoming Penny, Peter and Mehrtsfan to the group and then another later on welcoming another Peter. It would have been sent to whatever email address you nominated when joining.

Here's a thought - does anyone remember the guy who posted that his sister was given the Apollo Statuette presented to Alex?
If that guy reads this site, or if anyone knows him or how to make contact - would that not be sensational addition to the People's Palace exhibit?

Found this in the archives from Dougie???
Hello folks
My sister in law ( Sandra ) has asked me to find any info on a trophy she has and this seems probably the best place. When she was 11 and living in Glasgow her big sister took her to the Apollo to see the band. After they had played their last number Alex was presented with a trophy, he then beckoned to Sandra to come up. Lifted onstage by a bouncer Alex gave her the trophy and a kiss and she was returned to the crowd. She and her sister were then escorted to the side and the manager phoned their dad to come pick them up just in case somebody took a fancy to her gift. (surely not!) Anyway, the trophy is an angel type thingy on a marble base with the inscription 'Apollo Centre Glasgow Presented To Sensational Alex Harvey Band 18th - 20th Dec 1975 Sold Right Out' Sandra can't remember which date she was there but going by the inscription it would probably by the 20th. ( She thinks the last song was Delilah ) It seems that the band played a total of 7 gigs at the Apollo between 18th Dec 75 and 3rd Jan 76. So this where you may be able to help. Were you there? Does anyone know if he got a trophy each of these nights? Has anyone got any photos? Any info would be appreciated. On the down side the band didn't seem to make any lasting impression on her as her musical taste is in her a..e

That is the "Apollo Statuette" it was awarded to each member of the band for - as the plaque says - selling out three consecutive nights.
It's a rare thing to have but is really poor quality, paste and white metal - I guess that all sellout bands were awarded the statuette - but I don't know. I DO know that Chris was delighted to receive his - so maybe it was for several consecutive nights only - someone else will know that for sure!
We ended up with Chris' until Mum & Dad died and then he had it back, at my insistence; I had his MSG gold disc at his insistance!!
Hope this helps
Catherine, Chris' Sis (really)

Just a thought folks but do you think it might be an idea to arrange to meet up with the Yahoo group members sometime over the SAHBstock weekend? (I mean on Friday night or Sat or Sun afternoon not at the gig itself) That way we could maybe get to know each other and maybe discuss the tribute and see how things are progressing. Perhaps we could even visit the People's Palace en masse to show that there's the demand for such a tribute. I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, I just thought it might help us all pull together. Any comments?

Hopefully, Penny. Sarge has offered his services - although I don't see why he needs Yahoo's ok, he should just do a fundraising gig and donate the proceeds - that would double their bank balance.
Hef is working on a whole new piece, so she told me at the Scotia and EVERYTHING!!!! You're right, it IS exciting, although still some way off, the time'll tick away soon enough

Update From The Yahoo List C/O stuart donaghey Ok Folks, it is now a very real possibility that the Peoples Palace will have an Alex exhibition in Feb 2012. The project is now at the stage where we have to give descriptions and dimensions of the items that will be in the display. Then the museum will submit a proposal to the Board and within about 6 weeks they will let us have their decision. There are several items already in place (details to be announced upon confirmation from PP) but what we need now are a few bits of memorabilia from the fans to add as much interest and variety as possible. Everything that makes the exhibit will be insured by the museum and will be under glass. Each item should be properly accredited to its owner along with a few words explaining where it fits in. The exhibit is not indefinite, it may be refreshed every 6 months, depending on how much material there is to display. The alternative is for the memorabilia to stay the same for a couple of years and the exhibit to be taken down and the goods returned to their lenders. No firm decision has been made yet. Although this exhibit is all about Alex, the bands he played with are bound to overlap. We are looking for ticket stubs, a programme or promotional material from December 75 from the Apollo or any other iconic gig. A bit of an original Vambo wall. Anything that once belonged to Alex and now belongs to you from the Sensational Alex Harvey Band era. Any posters, tickets, programmes, promotional material that relates to The Alex Harvey Soul Band, The Electric Cowboys or The New Band copies of newspaper items covering "Scotland's Tommy Steele". Your ideas for the exhibit are welcome. If you have anything that you think belongs in the exhibit please contact either myself stuart_donaghey@yahoo.co.uk Brian or Sandra, send a pic and description / dimensions of the item too. Please act quickly as the Museum proposal should include a list of contents with dimensions prior to being submitted to the Board. This is an amazing chance we have here and we must do everything we can to make it sensational. All the best, Stu2 _____________ Cheerz md

The latest acquisition for the Alex Harvey exhibit at The People's Palace!! We still need more than this and the great pledges we already have (thankyou!!) So, we are still asking for copies of the press cuttings reporting Alex's success in becoming "Scotland's Tommy Steele" are a must. We don't expect anyone to have originals (but, if you do......) but it would be great if someone would pledge their time and effort in getting that for the exhibit. Any pics of Alex when he was in "Hair" would be great too. There are fans among you who followed the Sensational Alex Harvey after SAHB, into the New Band and the Electric Cowboys, we need memorabilia from that era too.
So Please,Please Help Us If You Can
We MUST make this as SENSATIONAL as possible, it's all about Alex Cheerz md

Hi boys and girls. I've not posted on this forum very often, for various reasons, but I'm in the yahoo group and have taken part in the discussions with the People's Palace about a tribute to Alex.
When we came up with the idea there were many different ways to discuss and agree on things. I tried all sorts, like myspace and facebook groups, but they didn't really take off, so as this particular idea started on the yahoo group it seemed easier and less confusing to keep the main discussion in there, but to spread the word beyond it. It's actually difficult enough to establish what's been agreed in that forum alone, so spreading that further seemed like it might be more difficult. Believe me, there were and are different ideas and opinions, but hopefully we're all more or less of one mind. It's not easy. I've been worried a few times that this may grind to a halt altogether, there were periods when the discussions went quiet and had to be rekindled, but now it seems to have it's own momentum. Please believe me, there was never any intention on my part to make a tribute to Alex limited to the yahoo group only. We're all in this together, as far as I'm concerned, so we thought the best way was to encourage anybody who wanted to contribute to do so via the yahoo group, which anybody is free to join.
Why the People's Palace? Well, I live in Glasgow so it's a place I know fairly well. I, and others, made various enquiries of various local government departments, but when it seemed like we might get lost along some long dark and dusty council corridors, the People's Palace seemed a much better option. I managed to get an email address and sent a message, half expecting it to start bouncing around the same council corridors, but instead I got a positive email in return and soon we had a meeting arranged.
If you want to find out more then feel free to google it, but it seems like a perfect venue, like a museum for the people, so ideal for Alex. The discussions we've had since make me more confident than ever that this will really happen, and will be better than even I'd hoped. Sandra and I went to the first meeting with one or two vague ideas and came out with real proposals, which you all know something about now.
I hope that's explained a bit better how this started, where we're going, and what our motivations are. The main, the only thing, is a tribute to Alex, with the family's blessing, that's from all of us. We're doing what we can, and welcome all suggestions and contributions. There are plans and ideas to take this beyond what we're suggesting already, but one step at a time, and this would be one giant step.
Special thanks also to Stuart, Sandra, and Catherine, for all their efforts so far. I can't wait to see what we end up with, though that's still forming I think you're all going to want to come and see it, wherever you are. I hope you can trust us to bring this one home.
