... ready for public consumption? I was having a shower the other day, and this song came into my head. I kept singing it (in my head of course) and rushed out to my recently acquired 4 track recorder and started working on it. Well, I think its complete - warts and all. Its a simple ditty called "Remember Vibrania" with very simple lyrics - my tribute to SAHB. I wish I was a better singer, but I am what I am. If you like it let me know. It's actually quite catchy if you listen to it a hundred times like I did when I was recording it! soundcloud.com/ginnie-1/remember-vibrania

Ginnie......Don't knock your vocals so much ,they fit nicely. It is a very catchy tune........a nice nostalgic feel to it. good use of the accordian sound. It reminds me so much in its style to The Television Personalities "i know where syd Barrett lives"
Now you got a manual for the porta ,you will develope your production skills quickly.
Also great to see you on soundcloud.
Keep on rockin in the free world !!!!!!

Also great to see you on soundcloud. Keep on rockin in the free world !!!!!! Thanks, Trench. I thought it sounded like something out of the sixties. The accordian was a last minute thing - it was recorded when I was doing the background vocal track. I figured I might as well add some keyboard when I wasn't singing the background chorus. I'll look up Where Sid Barrett Lives... I certainly hope my production skills get better! The sound got pretty muddy by the time I was finished. I think I lost half of the tones of the guitar part and I don't know why. I didn't apply any eq to the mix. On my next project I might just play directly into the Portastudio. Just to see if it is cleaner. BTW I joined Soundcloud because that's where you had some of your music. It's nice because someone can just click on the track and listen to it instead of having to download it. One reason why I found the vocals hard to do was that I did all the instrumental part first in writing the song - normally I would sit down with my acoustic and work out the vocals so that I'm singing in a key suited to my voice. I don't find it as hard to listen to my older material as far as vocals go. One minor botherment - I find the chorus, "Vibrania, Vibrania" a little too similiar to the Kinks song Victoria: "Victoria, Victoria" - totally unintentional though.

I'm still only learning the recording process. I know I can play the instruments, but somehow putting them all together is indeed a challenge. I find I have to "think" differently . Quite different from jamming with other people which is what I normally do.

Catherine is right, Ginnie, so long as you enjoy it, thats all that matters.
And as long as your recording your songs and music, we can enjoy them with you.

"My Mother Woke Me Up"
The story behind the song. Around 1987 or so my nephew was in high school and he was doing a literature project. He was going to "review" an album. He decided to actually record the album as well, so he came over and we wrote and recorded four songs. Luckily, he sings on this one, not me. He wrote the music and sang, and I did the rest.

A new rendering of one of my old songs: soundcloud.com/ginnie-1/where-am-i-to-goThis time I used the 4 track cassette recorder mainly as a mixer, and sent the output to the computer where I used Audacity to mix the tracks. I found I got a less muddy result.

This one was originally recorded in the early eighties. It has my best lyrics, I think "I once said something funny, but nobody laughed you see Alone in a crowded room, with deaf ears surrounding me... The voices loud, would cram the space But I was in, outer space again..."soundcloud.com/ginnie-1/me-the-strangerHey, Trench, something is funny when I record. I find that there is some latency happening with the tracks, so that when I listen to them back together, the timing is off. On this track, I trimmed each track at the beginning by a few milliseconds and that seemed to put it right.

Thanks! I'm not pretending to be a great musician and songwriter but I'm having fun. That, my dear Sir Gin the Minstrel, is no more than a man can ask for - keep at it!! But Catherine, Trench is clearly our Minstrel! I'll stick to my forget-me-nots and turnips but occasionally dabble in the music stuff. Trench helps me with that, and I'm teaching him turnip nomanclature. Its a fair exchange of expertise! ;D ;D ;D ;D (the turnip stuff would be boring to you, Majesty.. e.g. " Trench, now watch out for infections of cardamine yellow mosaic virus! It'll wipe out your Brassica campestris ssp. pekinensis as fast as you can blink..." It's highly technical, and most ordinary folks wouldn't comprehend it...)

Truant Meister Sir Trenchington is never here long enough to be awarded his title - it's very noble of you to put it this way and, you're right, his turnip training and your rigours of recording are best left as you see fit, a truly symbiotic relationship
