there must be some great stories out there about the great man, peoples experiences of meeting or seeing him. i bet you could write a book catherine, now theres a thing... anyway, me and craigie saw him live, thats another story.. but we never met him. another mate of mine dave smith went through to the toon in 76, the same gig we went to. he played the nick that day, they were having a sarnie outside the city hall at dinnertime, when the band turned up. he got his NME signed by alex, hes still got it..
howay then lets hear your stories then... and especially some of yours catherine..

Meet Alex and some of The Band a couple of times, once after a gig at Birmingham Town Hall and Alex invited everyone back to the Holiday Inn for Birthday drink. I was too young to go in the bar so I just hung around the reception while me brother and his mates had a drink. Alex and The Band came in about 12:30 had a drink and signed anything we had. Got a right boll**king off me mum for not getting home till gone 02:00am
Second time was when SAHB "supported" Yes at Stoke City. While Yes were on stage I was wondering around the side of the stage area, which was all fenced off, when Alex and Chris walked by leaving the stadium so I got there autographs a second time.
When I last posted the Stoke story Geddy Bear replied and we reckon we must have been stood next to each other because he can relate exactly the same story!

As previously posted on SAHB quotes thread - I was introduced to Alex, by His Chrisness, at a big post gig party, during the 3 concecutive nights sell out of the Apollo in Glasgow. As ever, I was introduced as "my wee sister";
Alex assured me he was pleased to meet me; apologised for continually wiping his face and head with a large Albany hotel bath towel, explaining that once he started sweating onstage, it took hours for him to stop, introduced me to his Dad and assured me I'd be fine with him - then off he went, presumably to more important and influential people than I could ever be
Darling Man, far too young to be at a gig on his own, had been driven there by his parents.....Mumsie still waffles on about the rose that Alex threw at her - Darling Man would rather it had been a bit of wall!!!!!
Those of you at the first convention, the proper one, where things and stuff actually happened and the band was on stage several times over the weekend.......may recall one of Chris' favourite Alex anecdotes.......from time to time, un petit jwan (that's French for "a wee joint") would be induldged in - Alex always clamoured to be allowed to roll it - although despite endless practice, they all came out shaped like ice cream cornets -consequently, he got to light it and have the first go......giggling like a fool before long.......the band never quite understood how Alex was so affected, when they were all ok really and he was obviously infinitely more relaxed than they.
One day, close attention was paid to the rolling techniques applied by Mr Harvey.........roughly speaking, only the first third had anything added to the tobacco..........when quizzed by his colleagues, Alex assured them that was how he thought it was done......

Then there was backstage at the Apollo - the night of Cheek to Cheek, back in the green room........three 9'12" blonde, backless dressed, scarlet lipped sirens.....Alex in the middle of the room full of bemused Mums & Dads, Chris draped over the arm of a sofa......a big hug from Alex, who, just off stage had no idea whether he was on foot or horseback........then on to the Albany.......

From the night of Cheek to Cheek......we were at the front of the dress circle in the Apollo, a limo having collected Mum & Dad from the house......although Dad was ADAMANT he had NOT ordered a taxi ....I was charged with looking after my nephew, about 4 or 5 at the time.
He had been at rehearsals that day and had a great pic taken of him playing Ted's drums, so he knew something we didn't know......however, as we took our seats, the little darling asked for a choc ice (really? in the Apollo - memory tells me "yes"!)
Choc ice consumed, hanky spat on and beautiful little face wiped, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band took the stage.......and the wee sweetie at my side promptly nodded off to sleep.
Anthem greatly impressed Dad (famous for saying of Alex "he can sing nane") and the band eventually left the stage to the normal tumultuous applause, whistling, stamping and cheering......
Roy opened his huge blue eyes and said "Oh, no, Auntie Cafrin, I've missed the ladies with the bums...........
