Sos has the streets of London calmed down? They have now Vic. I personally don't think that any of the trouble makers were real students, it was probably hijacked by other people just looking for an excuse to make trouble. Don't know if there are any protests planned for up and down the country today. I don't blame the real students from protesting.

I'm sure Penny is right, there are professional troublemakers who latch on to any protest and completely undermine any validity of that protest.
Arrest them and lay them on Regent Street then drive to and fro over them, in the damaged Royal car, until we're sure the car is still working. Then scoop them up and dump them in the River Thames.
Students' fees? I dunno. It all started with Maggie, to "reduce" the high unemployment figures - choose further education - so they did, in their droves, many, to while away another three years, living off the state, enjoying cheap beer and good bands.
We now have the most highly qualified burger flippers in the world.
If further education is REALLY what the student is after, aiming for a good professional career, then why should they not pay towards it? If you choose vocational training, like acting or dancing or the like, you have to pay for it,(at least, your parents do) on a scale measured against their income.
I object to paying for "students" who choose ridiculous courses - Prince William and History of Art - inavaluable, I'm sure, when calculating Granny's worth - but where else?
Let those students with real potential be educated and pay for part of it when they are earning over the threshold; let those who would study underwater basket weaving for people with red hair - bugger off out of the system, so the resources can be used efficiently and effectively.
I know people who went to university without the slightest idea on what they would study and specialise in; one came out qualified to teach French and Italian at high school level; five years later, she packed in teaching and became the office lady for her husband's (he was also a university educated qualified teacher) photography business - was that not a waste of two places at uni? I'm afraid I think it was.
I've posted before, we stopped off for a milkshake or whatever and the young couple in front of us ran up a bill of £15 or so in drinks and cakes - then flashed a student discount card..............the tax payer picks up the tab for their education - where is my "working for a living" discount card??

The government in Malawi are debating a ban on farting in public and say they'll treat it like urinating in public. If they bring it in over here I am in for a long stretch - but at least there'll be lots people I recognise to share a cell with.

On the radio at the weekend someone said the Krankies are married. I can tolerate civil partnerships and the like but some bloke marrying a young boy is a step too far. I am off on a crusade to free wee Jimmy Krankie. While I plan my route I shall read the memoirs of that Rumsfeld chap which might give me a chance to work out the 'knowns' I know as well as the 'unknowns' I know. I might struggle with the unknowns I don't know.

First one today we ought to note and think of for a mo are the poor people of New Zealand. I don't understand why in this day and age some fancy machine didn't tell them it was coming.
Poor old Gaddafi now has to give his proclamations from on high from the back of an old van. If David Cameron is thinking of following suit I know where there's an old transit that might do the trick and he can lend my brolly to complete the effect.
And they've found a long lost Enid Blyton book called Mr Tumpy's caravan. Well if they give me a couple of weeks and it's worth a few bob I'll discover another long lost one. Any ideas for things I ought to put in will be gratefully received - like lashings of ginger beer etc etc.

There's a posh dinery in Covent Garden serving ice cream made from breast milk. Not too sure about that one. I'll stick to a 99 with two flakes if that's ok.

I was listening to the news on the way to work and wondered if anyone else noticed that news readers slow down and speak very deliberatley when they say 'the Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt'. I think someone has already done the spoonerism on air. I see the Old Firm game was a fairly sedate and tranquil affair again??!!

The spoonerism was done on the Today programme on Radio 4 a few weeks ago I think. And possibly also by Jeremy Paxo on the TV. Ive always wondered if Douglas Hurd was ever pronounced as Douglas Turd by mistake.

The BBC news today has mention of Phineas Gage who had an unfortunate accident which removed part of his brain and hence he became the subject of study to determine the effects of this crude lobotomy. Apparently he went from a mild mannered god fearing man to a ruffian given to foul language and inappropriate comment. At least I know I have something in common with someone now.

My usual trawl of the news this morning had a few notables. The tsunami in Japan puts all our troubles in perspective. The power of nature can far exceed anything man could ever invent. I am not sure what you do when there is a thirty foot wall of water headed your way.
And if I might mention the 'c' word. The England side were taking to the ground today to play their match on the same bus that the West Indies side were on the other day which got stoned by the locals. Apparently they were disappointed by their own side's performance and decided to voice their disappointment by stoning the bus. Unfortunatley they got the wrong bus and did it to the bus carrying the other side.
....and finally there is a guy who is blind who has had a guide dog for a number of years and unfortunatley the dog is now blind so they have got a guide dog for the bling guide dog. I wonder if the blind one follows the sighted one by sniffing its bum?

Some poor man has been arrested for singing 'Kung Foo Fighting' as part of his act - apparently a chinese passer by was offended and complained to police who had to act. Don't know what's wong with people these days. I asked for Rammstein on the cd player in the local pool and was told that it wasn't allowed because minority swimmers might not understand it. Come to think of it I don't understand it or them either.

I would now be concerned about revenge and retaliation - they're not called "terrorists" for nothing. Sombre indeed.

My, my, what an historic night!
After going through three minority governments in a row, we finally have a majority government. The Conservatives received 167 of 308 seats. I don't especially like that party, but its good for business and good for stability.
The New Democratic Party (our most left leaning party, but not really that radical) will form the Official Opposition - they received 102 seats - a milestone for them 'cause they usually end up in third with anywhere from 15 to 35 seats. Thats a major increase and it will be interesting to see what they bring to the table. So most of their members elected will have little or no experience at the Federal level.
The venerable Liberal Party, who have ruled this country for more years than any other party, really collapsed - receiving only 34 seats! Thats the lowest they've ever gotten.
And... the Bloc Quebecois... a Federal Party but one that only fields candidates in the province of Quebec. A party that is separtist (they want Quebec to leave Canada) and they are only interested in Quebec's interest... well, they were wiped out. They received only 4 seats, down from 49 in 2008. Hopefully this will signal the death knell for this group and they'll be gone by the next election!
Oh, I forgot to mention... The Green Party elected one member! That's where my vote went. Mind you, I wouldn't want them running the country but would like to see an alternative voice in Parliament.

In The Sun (crappy British 'news' paper so the colonies know) today in one of the endless articles about Bin Laden they made much of the fact that children lived nearby his compound and when they accidentally kicked footballs over the wall, they were never given back.......what a bastard eh?? Well, they can go in and fetch them themselves now.
