The news seems dire these days. If it's not bad stuff it's financial calamities. Can someone start a 'something nice' thread? Ah, this must be where Ginnie's new thread started from. A very good idea. And your right Mehrtsfan, the news has been even more miserable than usual over the last few weeks.

In and among all the gloom it's good to see there are still people with a grip on reality. Like the guy who decided to make a nuclear reactor in his kitchen. I think someone should have bought him a cook book.

I agree with all those opinions I have heard expressed over the last few days. My political voice is not being heard and as a result I feel an overwhelming desire to break into Currys and run off with a big telly with built in blu-ray. Come to think of it I would feel fully enfranchised if I got one of those shiny toasters and a Dyson vac too.

Only to find that Curry's won't have the tv, blu ray, toaster and vac (not keen on Dyson, myself) that you wanted - no point in looting for second best!!

I always think it tempts fate to say things like 'people can't be so stupid' Anyway has all this fighting in the street been caused by the king announcing he is going to put a tax on tea? I listened to an interview with Hulk Hogan on the radio yesterday and he said he would get hold of the rioters and shake them severely and then body slam them. Unusual but original if I might say so.

You were right, it does seem I tempted fate. A bit of unrest reported in Cardiff last night, nothing much, but enough. Will shut my yap in future.

In the Guardian today - 'As officers poured into London from other forces, more than 20 Welsh police officers arrived at his station, he said. ''Some of them had not seen a black face before and were in for a bit of a culture shock'' '

I listened to a heart warming programme on the radio which celebrated the multiculturalism of these great islands of ours on the way in to work this morning. It was all about forced marriage. The thing that surprised me was it was the interviewee's mother who wanted her dead and not the father and that back in the Punjab her relatives never expected her to have an arranged marriage because she had an education and opportunity. Anyway it was followed by something equally enthralling from the annual bash of the Society of Statistitions.(Hope I spelled that right). However they did not say if they considered themselves a representative sample - statistically that is...

I was amused that the allegations against the former head of the IMF have been dropped. Not so good that the other allegations might be dropped too. I was looking forward to hearing a description in court of what he did especially the bit where the complainant described him as lunging at her like a 'rutting chimpanzee'. Nice to see the pictures of the wife standing by him though.

News items that made me think twice today were
''Busy' Hockney turned down queen'.
I think I'm with him on that one.
And a more local one for me-
'Man kept wife in case'.
In case of what?

This morning they were debating the removal of travellers from the site darn sarf where the UN have decided their interests are better served than in parts of the world where regimes murder people. It struck me that we must be really unlucky when the bands of happy wandering ethnically challenged caravan dwellers that break into our sites steal everything they can pick up, sh*t everywhere and leave us a big bill for the clean up when they keep telling us what a nice bunch of law abiding tax payers they are.

Hear hear, it comes to something when one of the "leaders" of the travelling community has just won "celebrity" big brother, was that because they couldn't evict him without a court order?

That looks like it could well be the explanation

This morning they were debating the adoption process and why it was failing following the official figures for adoptions falling through the floor. The various people who rang in said the process was long and drawn out. One couple had tried for six years and transferred to another agency to see if they could get a result. The problems being that the adopters did not meet the criteria on all sorts of religious, cultural and similar where the powers that be thought the broad interests of the children might not be met. I think my hearing must be going because the last caller was some bloke from Harrogate who said he had registered with his husband and they had two young boys placed with them in under 12 months and the whole process was very smooth. I'll book a hearing test.
