OOOOHHHHHH!!!!! Davey!! Davey Crockett!! King of the wild frontier!!!!
One of Chris' earlier heroes - he had the hat too - our next door neighbour had worked in the far flung North of Canada, I think, so it was the real McCoy ;D
Sorry, quite the wrong tone for the thread (nice one Vic)
OOHHHH!!!! They are waiting for our petitions, silent and calm Their lips no prayer can utter, no suppliant psalm. We have made them all too weary with long delay, For the souls in their still agony, good Christian pray. Requiescat in pace, requiescat in pace.Latin spelling may well be wrong, perhaps requiescant.....the joys of indoctrination!! That only applied when the dear departed had to await their final fate in purgatory - purgatory is no more, it seems, good move!!

A good friend of mine died a few years back, he was a photographer and was attempting to take some pics of gulls nesting on a cliff when he slipped and fell to his death. (the actual place is notorious for accidents and suicides. It is also used in Dr Who as Bad Wolf Bay and will be in the new series as the location that the Doctor meets River Song again, I think it's in ep 1 and 2) Anyway, he was a huge Chris Rea and Supertramp fan and at his service they played Supertramp's Downstream and Chris Rea's Just Passing Through. Boy was that an emotional day. The funeral was 7 years ago today.
R.I.P. Dai Tuckett, a great friend, so sorely missed.

I have mixed feelings about posting this on a forum, but unfortunately, you've become my friends and I feel comfortable enough to share this with you... R.I.P. My brother, Gerry J. Halley who passed away this evening after a bout with cancer. After seeing him just a few hours ago, I am relieved in a way that he no longer has to go through this anymore. He became very religious in the last couple of years and seem well prepared to "meet his maker" and was not afraid of death. Anyway, I'll just mention a few things about Gerry... When he was sixteen he entered the seminary to become a Catholic priest, this would be around 1960. We were a poor family, and my mother (my grandmother mother) struggled to pay for his fees. Her husband had recently died so she had to return to teaching. Now of course, Gerry didn't have to take a vow of celibacy until he actually became a priest, which wouldn't be until the training was complete. And Gerry, being who he was, during his time there, got a taste of non-celibacy if you know what I mean. After almost two years he realized that there was no way he could become a priest - his proneness to being horny the prime reason. So he quit. Almost broke my mother's heart but he did the right thing. His next job was as a DJ at a radio station. One time he said something "naughty" on the air. He got a call from the station's owner who said that he was coming right away to the radio station and that Gerry "better not be there when I arrive". In his 66 years on this planet, Gerry was married twice, having 3 children with his first wife and another with someone who wasn't his wife. That's Gerry. We used to say that he "was happy as a pig in shit" because he could easily be content, as long as he was comfortable and even better yet, was comfortable with a woman beside him. He was a flirt, even till his last days with the nurses at the hospital. He wasn't the greatest father, but I was happy to see him reconcile with all of his children before he died. He wasn't the brother that took care of you, everyone sort of took care of him, which was fine with me. He had a very above average IQ, yet could easily believe almost anything he read. He almost became a priest, worked as a DJ, was in the Navy for a short while, was a draughtsman among other things. He also wrote poetry and short stories. Sometimes he had lots of money to spend, sometimes he had very little, but he remained the same - usually happy, funny and good person to have a few beers with. Gerry had a habit of telling you things that weren't true - but he believed them to be. He once told me something that happened to him, and I said to him, "Gerry, that happened to me, not you". "oh" Once when we were all drinking (as we usually did at family gatherings) we were playing team darts and Gerry was at 57. He was loaded drunk, and kept falling down we he went to throw, but managed to finally throw a dart - 17. Next dart, 20. Then he fell down again. He got up and threw a double 10. What a big WTF? He couldn't even see the dart board for goodness sake! We all cheered and laughed with disbelief. Gerry said, "What did I do?" There are a few other things I could mention that would make some of you blush so I won't. Here's a picture of Gerry, as usual, having a "good time". I loved him very much and will miss him. God, I do think that he has a slight tear in his trousers...

Thanks for all your heartfelt words my friends. Seems that I'm gonna be doing the eulogy. Writing and reading it. God, there's so much stuff I'll have to leave out because I can't say it in a church! I'm sure I'll finish it by tomorrow evening plus get pictures printed and delivered to my sister who is a member of BR's profession (his real job, I mean). Meanwhile, I'm really, really tired from lack of sleep and working today. Shortly before he passed, I made a website for Gerry's poetry. He really like that. Now, I wasn't overly fond of his prose sometimes but he wrote with his heart and it meant a lot to him. For those who wish to have a gander here is the link: gerryjhalley.110mb.com/This poem of his will be in his obituary: TIME How can you know where you’re going If you don’t know where you’ve been? For heaven’s sake, stop worrying And dwell on the time you’re in. The past has already happened; Alterations are hard to arrange. The future will unfurl regardless; Don’t fret what you cannot change. Time is easy to understand; I’ll tell you exactly how; The past and the future are brighter If you’re the best you can be, right now.
