John Lord of Deep Purple R I P Yes Penny and it almost deserves it's own thread? I heard the news on Radio five earlier.. quite a shock Purple were one of those bands I loved as a young un and as much as people bang on about Blackmore or Gillan being the stars of the Band, I always thought Lord was key (excuse the pun) to the Purple sound. Fantastic keyboard player and credited with co writing some of the greatest rock music of all time. God bless ya Jon

Sad to hear this; we endlessly (it seems) watch recordings of the story of rock and so on and just last week Jon Lord was one of the main people being interviewed mind, it could be a ten year old programme, looking well and seeming to have come out the other end beautifully.
Deep Purple in Rock was, I think, the first album I ever had - Chris gave it to me.......dunno where it came from but it was well worn and fairly badly scratched, still, I was delighted!!
Rest in peace, Jon Lord

Jon planed to perform a self weitten Classical Synphony in the KKL Lucerne, Switzerland last autunum and must cancel this cause he's health was too bad.
We lost a great composer, aranger and producer one of the rare real masters in this times.
He's Music will liv forever.

John Lord of Deep Purple R I P Thanks for posting Penny, I'm looking at my ticket stub: Coventry Theatre Hales St, Coventry ____________________ Evening 7:30 Wednesday 29 May '74 Stalls L2.00 J13 to be given up Elf opened the show, Coverdale/Hughes singing for Deep Purple, my ticket sat me in front of Ritchie Blackmore. Jon set up stage right betwixt 2 B3s when he turned to face the theatre he would play them both and I hadn't seen a keyboardist do something like that ever before. T., Crane, Emerson, Wakeman, Michaels, Allman, Moraz, Hensley, were all great but Jon is Lord of Rock and Roll.

R.I.P. to David Barby, who passed away last night after suffering a stroke ten days ago. David was well known to British TV viewers as an expert on Bargain Hunt, Flog It and many other similar programmes. He was one of my favourites on the shows and I am saddened by his death. Rest in peace David, a gentleman and a star.

Yes R.I.P Neil Armstrong --I can remember staying up into the wee hours watching that landing on a small screen B&W TV. The Space program captured all our imaginations . Can u imagine the stones it took to do that?those astronauts . & to be the first.. how'd he know what would happen when he put his foot on alien soil. Neil Armstrong will be remembered with Magellan, Columbus and all the pioneers of exploration. Can you imagine that there is more technology in an i Phone then there was in the lunar landing module, which malfunctioned btw, and he landed the thing manually. stones..R.I.P.

A great man. Yes, the way he landed the LM showed what he was made of. He did something similiar on one of the Gemini missions when they docked with the Athena and they went spinning out of control. One of the reasons the astronauts always insisted on being able to manually control the spaceship - unlike the Russians.

Uncool or not, I used to love watching his variety show as a kid. Skipping through some of his Youtube vids tonight has stirred some very special childhood memories.
